^^ I have a couple oregon chains like that for a Craftsman 18" saw. Couple others are missing a single tooth. I've always figured it was just how the chain spool ended and the next one began.

i tend to agree, i think this scenario is inevitable in some link amount combinations, so unless you can mantain a chain with a multiple of 4 you are going to run into this.

if the series goes, left chisel, link, right chisel, link left chisel and so on only chains with 4, 8, 12, 16 and so on will be perfect.

therefore any chain with 6, 10, 14, 18 ect links will have successive left or right chisels.

throw in an odd number of links and you will likely have 2 plain links in a row.
