What type of cuting do you do?

I burn about 8 cords a year and just started cutting my own wood. I am already cut and split most of my wood for the year but am finding myself wanting to cut more and actually cut a tree just for the fun of it a couple of weeks ago. The wife came out to the back yard with this puzzled look on her face, I wasn't quite sure what to tell her, she just shook her head and went back into the house! If this keeps up I won't have a tree left in my back yard.

Not enough choices in this thread to cover me so maybe I just vote other. Some years I cut up to 400 cords of hardwood firewood, others maybe 40 cord. Cutting and felling saw logs, pulpwood and lot clearing at other times. Tree removal in restricted felling places, top down removals and close tolerance felling are the most fun.

hahaha, nananana i log for a living ,so i can buy as many saws as i can afford without anyone griping. honey its for work.lol

I would have to say other. I cut for fence line clearing, to remove dead/blowdown, for general land maintenance etc. Basically farmland improvement. But, I mostly do it for free and when I feel like doing it. I was actually talking to my best bud landowner yesterday and we decided to get into some retail firewood bundles for the local campgrounds.

Its just a hobby for me. I help my dad keep the oak trees trimmed back from the house, cut down a tree or two when he decides he wants one gone. Would like to find a job in the tree service though. No chance at logging down here.

Used to cut 100 percent for firewood. Now its just a few small tree jobs and hobby cutting.

I cut firewood for two wood burning households, soon to be three this coming winter and I hope to be selling roadside "camping" wood by next summer (we get a lot of casino city slickers who go camping without any fire wood!). But it is still my hobby, as I work my regular job 5-6 days a week......

Ahhh, the casinos! They're a blessing and a curse at the same time, I live about 45 minutes from them, but you're much closer! I used to service the currency counters there (softcount room) I spent plenty of Christmas' and Thanksgivings down in the hole.. I wont miss it one bit.:dizzy:
Anyway I cut a lot for firewood, but also cut quite a bit for milling, So I'll have to select "other". I'm building a timber frame home from the wood on my property. Everything from the post and beams, studs, tongue and groove ceilings and floors, interior and exterior moldings as well. The mill has already paid for itself long ago...

I cut about 5 cord a year for the backyard monster and so I can keep warm when drinking  beverages. Now that I come here and hang out, I own 10-15 saws and keep buying more! My wife just can't figure out what I'm doing....neither can I! Oh...I been cutting to tune a saw, cut a few cookies...I just plain like to cut.....THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!!!!:dizzy:

Cutting and tinkering with saws is just a hobby for me. I do some trail and creek clearing and maybe I’ll do a little firewood with my BIL this fall (read testing/tuning ;)).

Other, I guess. I work doing line-clearing and clearing near public roads maintained by the city/municipality I live in, and taking down bothersome trees on public and/or government-owned land in the area.

It's good work, but it's not exactly logging.

as a hobby & need

I have branches from maples in my yard, no doubt there are fallen trees on
my farm available in the fall, don't even burn wood anymore. I will chain
drag or rope sometimes in the hot summer months to get trash wood out
of way quicker, have a brushpile sheltering cottontails, but I like rabbit.
We usually saw in the fall after ticks, mosquitoes, snakes and other pests
have went into hibernation, still come up with hickory for cooking &
oak for extra winter heating.

Cut pulpwood for 6 years now its 5 or 6 cords of firewood for the stove in the house a year and GTG's when I can get to them. Was out today getting a tree ready for the GTG I am hosting October.09.

I guess I'm other too. As I cut for fun and for work.

At work, I cut out alot of old overgrown fencelines. Mostly big Cherry and Maple. We make logs with whatever is good. We also log alot of Oak, Cherry, Poplar, and some maple at work during the fall/winter.

On the side, I am into tree service. And I also log for myself when work slows down for winter. What don't get made into logs gets sold as firewood. I usually sell 40-60 loads a winter but I sold 133 loads three years ago. :givebeer:

I also cut wood for my mom and dad to stay warm. And I have been known to noodle and cookie cut some too.

But all of it is pure fun and excitment for me, and I enjoy running my saws, so I don't know what you would call me.:)

I get pai to cut firewood its a part time 2nd job. It pays for my chainsaw adictoin.:greenchainsaw:
