I'm in south west Ontario and have seen alot of this damage to maples this year and would like to know what it is and how to fix it. I believe it is called south west disease and what happens is when tree is in winter time(frozen) the sun hits the trunk on the south west side and warms it up...

    Whoopie sling use

Thanks for the replies. Like i said earlier-it seemed like everyone was using the eye slings and to me seemed like it would take alot of time to retie that timber hitch each time a chunk of wood was knocked down. Well i will give it a go next time i need it. thanks

    Whoopie sling use

I'm just getting into using loop runners and slings and wow what a difference it makes on a job. I should add that it is all from learning from this site. I've got myself a loopie sling and a port-a-wrap recently and was wondering if you guys use the loopie or whoopie slings with a block when...

    Sequoia or sequoia SRT

I'm finally going to pull the trigger on a saddle and its going to be the sequoia. The thing is I don't know if i should get the SRT or the traditional. I climb DRT but i was thinking of trying some suspenders with my saddle to help with the weight of large saws. So do i buy the SRT or go with...

How deep on sideplate when sharpening

I sharpen my chains on a grinder and want to know how deep do you guys go on the sideplate? Do you grind down to just above the drive links? Also, after you have ground a chain a few times do you smooth or clean out the gullet? It seems that after a few sharpenings the gullet seems to get a...

Can someone fill me in on sprockets

I have all stihls that are all stock and would like to know what putting larger sprockets on them will do or create as far as performance. It takes awhile to absorb what you pros talk about so go easy on me. Also do you guys do these mods (mufflers and sprockets) for your everyday work saws...

Can anyone shed some light on sprockets

All my saws are stock and i'd like to see if i can get more production or speed or whatever out of them. So can anyone tell me if going to a bigger sprocket will help? Like instead of a 3/8 7 put a 3/8 8 on a stihl 46 or 36 or 88. I don't really know anything about this. Will i have to change...

    Chain Prices

Seems like same here. A 20" 3/8 stihl loop is $39.95 plus 15% tax and the 2nd loop is 35% off. I buy stihl by the roll from the same dealer at a discounted price. Even if i had to pay that kinda money for a loop it would still be worth it for the quality. I bought lazer chain rolls before and...

    Stihl 066 and 088

That is a sweet picture. I think i,m gonna take a picture of my babies. I think the next saw i get would be a 66. I'v got 2 088's and don't really care for them. Very hard to cut with them and a long bar.

So close... yet so far to go.

I had the same problem when i first got my Jolly grinder, can't remember which side is always longer but it still is so what i do is start on the side that has the smallest or worse tooth and when i get to the other side i grind 1 to two teeth and check the length and adjust to correct. The...

    Ground Trimming VS Climbing

I normally charge less for a less technical job. Just like a tree that needs to be climbed - the more stuff around it (fence, shed, wires) the more the price goes up. When the wood is big and the big saws and bars come out (the more likely it is to bend or break something) the more money. So the...
