thinking about buying a used vermeer 625 with high hours??????

I would say 1200 hours is getting up there but I've seen several Kohlers with far more hours that run perfect. My old Bobcat 450 had a Kohler gas engine in it with 1900 hours and it ran like a top. Only thing I ever had to do was change the oil/filter and turn the key.

    bobcat what size

i do mostly residential, and people can be very picky about their yards. i've had two bobcats, and i have purchased a 450 and a 443. The 450 was great, but i much preferred the diesel option on the 443. i don't know much about the bigger machines with the exception that the price tag and the...

    should i get a 99 whisper or a 8 morbark eager beever 290 -do i need title?

I've got an 80's model, i think Mitts & Merrill chipper I bought from a golf course up in Saginaw, Mi last year. its got just over 700hrs on it, ford 300 6 cylinder. its not pretty but it runs and chips fine, $1500 its out of here. Very simple machine, pretty much just start it and give it...

    ATV versus UTV??

I have a little bit of each of these around my place. like everyone says, four wheelers are far more nimble and agile than a UTV. You're pretty much stuck using a log arch or a small trailer to get wood out though, so all in all I don't think there is much gain here. if you go this route, I...

    Grapple/equipment questions

Joe - thats a nice truck! i've got one pretty much just like it, its just a little older. the arm does come in handy, but it still needs two people to run it. I'm looking with something for a grapple on the end so I can have someone run the logs out solo. as far as the weight stuff goes and...

Yeah i wasn't talking about mounting the prentice to the trailer, I have an f700 log truck i was thinking of putting one of those on. 12k on bailey's eh? i'll have to check that out, thats better than 15k - although i was thinking i was going to spend around 8. i have the hydro unit...

    Grapple/equipment questions

I have a 14ft dual axle dump trailer i purchased last year for firewood delivery. I'm looking to mount a grapple and a small gas motor on the tongue of the trailer. i've been doing some searching for used grapple arms, have had no luck. also been looking for new grapple arms, the only real...

    Welding questions HD splitter

Definately cut with a torch if bandsaw not available. I use a grinder to clean up the wedges on my machines every so often, but it'd take a long while to create an edge with a grinder. my advice would be to find a machine shop and have them mill an edge on it for you. forgot to look...

    Negotiating for Log Splitter

i've never run a honda engine on any of my splitters, just briggs intek pro. my old man has run the same 5.5hp brigs on his splitter since 94, i'd say thats a pretty good price with the briggs and wouldn't have a second thought about running it if you're confident on the splitter build/strength.

    Craigslist deal of the day!

yes...some people are totally screwed up in their thinking. sometimes when they're bad enough i'll actually respond and explain to them that they are most likely insane to think someone would actually do this work for them for branches, a free pile of mulch, etc..

Equipment purchases - time to invest some money

i'll be finishing up my MBA here in two months, afterwards i'd like to go full-bore into the wood stuff. Lately i've been getting a lot more work. Work with trees, work with land clearing, excavating, all kinds of goofy stuff. I have 3 splitters that i've put together over the years, couple...

A little brother for the 361?

i bought the 260 pro to go with my 361 and love it. its not meant to be a beast of a saw, but if you use it like it was intended, its great. light and cuts very well.

compact 4x4 tractor or big atv

so far i've not had a problem with my CVT drive on the polaris. i've pulled quite a bit, plow snow, swamped the belt a few times and on one occasion used it to pull out a chevy colorado. so far so good

    Twice in 2 days

I get questions like that all the time, and its hard just flat out saying "no". About the only thing i loan out now is my big trailer from time to time. My dad told me when he first started making log splitters and getting into wood, he would paint a sign on the hydro tank of his splitters...

Guy trying to scam me (Craigslist) what should i do...

i sell quite a few cords of wood each year, and i like to think that i make about 90% of my customers very happy. after a couple years, i realize that i can't please everyone, and some people just can't use a tape measure or do simple math. so, those people i give a little bit of extra to just...

    Dump Truck Hydraulic Question

you're just overloading the pump. easiest way to get more power for lift is to go with a bigger cylinder.
