Dol-kita 7900 with extras near Pittsburgh

I have a Home Depot rental makita 64cc saw that was upgraded with an OEM Dolmar 7900 P&C. I have the original P&C and an 84cc Woodland Pro P&P C. Comes with the original 18" bar, a 24" bar and a few chains. It's in decent work saw shape & runs like a champ. Asking $450 for all. Would prefer...

How often do you clean your chimney?

I burn about 4-5 cords a year, typically a mix of hardwoods, almost all well seasoned. My insert is an EPA non-cat with a 6" stainless liner. I clean my chimney once a year, but could probably go every two years. I have never gotten more than a couple of cups of creosote dust out of it...

    Insert shopping.....

Ian, I have a Fireplace Extrodinaire Elite 33 and love it. It sits flush with the opening of the fireplace which is aesthetically very pleasing, but the downside is that it is useless without the blower. I believe the minimum hearth depth requirement was 14". I had to extend mine, and I...

insert back drafting smoke into house

esshup got it right. It was also addressed in another thread... It turns out that there was really bad creosote accumulation on the screen in my cap. I reached out second story window with a broom handle and gave it a few taps and got a nice pile of creosote in the fire box. I didn't...

insert back drafting smoke into house

husky455rancher, Funny you should mention that... I just did all of that this year and made the same observations.... there was quite a bit of fine ash accumulated on top of the top plate and at least initially, it seemed to burn a bit cleaner. Thanks for the input. Adam

insert back drafting smoke into house

Hi all, I have had my Fireplace Extrodinaire Elite 33 for several years and have never had a problem. Now, all of the sudden, this year when I open the doors to reload, I am getting a large amount of smoke belching out into the house even with the bypass damper open. The insert was...

Best time to buy wood ?

Buy wood? This doesn't compute. Doesn't paying for wood defeat the whole purpose of heating with it? :biggrinbounce2:

What to do with pine log?

I have taken logs like this and ripped them into a few pieces with a chainsaw to lay on the ground and stack "good" firewood on. I have also cut them into 6-8" thick cookies to use as feet under pallets to stack firewood on. It only lasts a couple of years, but when it gets buggy or punky...

My log guy won't be bringing any more logs. Where to get logs in SW PA?

windwalker7, You might try calling some tree service companies, especially if you have the land to let them dump some chips while they are dropping logs. You may not get giant loads, but you may at least get some free wood dropped on you lot. Adam

How to cut cull loggs and ends

Hi all, another vote for cutting to proper length and making a separate pile of "shorts". At stacking time, I put them on top so they don't make the pile unstable and so I can burn them first and get them out of the way. BTW... Steve NW WI, who is that in your avitar? :jawdrop: Adam

    pain HO

I would suggest telling him that your insurance says that no one can be within 50 feet of your work area, including the homeowner. Claim that if they find out or if he gets hurt, you will lose your insurance. Set cones if you have to. That way, you aren't the bad guy and he stays out of the...

Beaver showed up in our pond

This is a must read if you are dealing with beavers, especially if you are concerned that their activities might draw the attention of any kind of authorities: http://www.getipm.com/personal/dam.htm Read the original letter and the land owner's response. It's a hoot! Adam

    Dwarf weeping willow question

Hi all, Thank you in advance for opinions on another problem tree! This Dwarf weeping willow was planted last spring. It grew VERY quickly and the new weight bent it over. It is currently staked near the top, but there is still a significant bend in the middle of the trunk. My plan is...
