Struggle,

That NOS find is beautiful. I really like the red bar. That looks VERY similar to the 200 Classic I have on the bench right now. You managed to post all those pics but not one of the "oil valve" on the handle. Could you put on up for me? I would like to see what it is supposed to look like...

Can anyone tell me what saw I have by the numbers on the tag. Some guys have said xl-12 but I am not completely sure.

Didn't I already answer that question???:msp_rolleyes:

What parts do you need for it?

Heres the sxl's big bro: A xl400

More bling and power than a xl-12! What more could you ask for???

That XL400 is sweet! I've only handled a few in person (one looked almost as nice as that), but the've all had roached P/C's. I understand from some old timers that the XL400 and XL500 had some issues. Seemed to be overheating related siezes mostly. One old timer theorized that the 'shaver' grill on the XL400 didn't let enough cooling air to flow through. With modern oil, and keeping the cooling fins clear (looks like that won't be a problem for you) then you'll most likely be fine for a long time. It's not like you use that saw as a workhorse...

I didn't act quick enough on one of those listed on CL a while ago. I need to pick one up. May get that nice looking but squeaked XL400 from my buddy and scare up a new P/C for it. They show up on feebay from time to time.

Most XL2 series saws I've seen didn't have that valve. His XL probably doesn't, as it was a more 'base' model sold by Kmart. The 200 Classic was somewhat of an 'upscale' model in the series.

Oh my  I have the super deluxe model in my possesion? Nice!

Can you explain what is supposed to be in that spot on mine? It's just a rubber cap with nothing underneath which obviously seems wrong. There are 1,2,3,4 markings like it should have dial there.

I vote get your hands on a xl400 anyway you can. I think a nice outer shell would be harder to find than a p/c so your buddies would be a good find. They are fun to run and feel like a sxl with more power. My favorite "smaller" xl series saw.

I would think that is a oiler adjuster. Yours prolly doesnt have it.

There's a small plactic knob with a line or arrow (can't remember which) that you turn towards the different numbers. Turns a valve that controls the auto oiler flow as you mentioned. I'm betting your saw was sold without the valve, and had the rubber cap instead.

Homelite just used the same handle casting for models with and without the valve. They put a blockoff cap in place on saws that didn't have the valve. I wouldn't sweat it. The valve doesn't really do much anyways. I don't have an IPL for that model, but I'm sure somebody does........................and both types are surely illustrated in the IPL.

The numbers are just a decal, they aren't molded in. The odd thing to me is that there were oil lines attached to the back of it but they just go right into the area that the rubber cap covers. I am thinking something had to be in there or they could just run the oil line straight to the bar, why go through a seperate piece? They obviously were pinchin' pennys when they designed this so I can't imagine they used unneeded parts. It's almost like someone took the rubber cap off and lost the guts...

Couple pics from the KY GTG. Also in the original thread.

Me and the 750. Auto oiler wasn't working, just had to keep on the manual button when I remembered.

John (I think) running the 900G. I think he was liking all the Homelites! This is the same log the 750 is cutting. Either the camera has a fast shutter speed or the chain is turning slow enough to count the drivers!!

well after my tree removal job I had some extra time so I installed a fuel filter on my project Super EZ Auto and filled it up, tuned the carb, and fired it up. Still waiting on 1 O ring for the auto oilier, I have one new one but you need 2, that should be in tomorrow then I can button it up and have 2 running Super EZ Auto's. Unfortunately the third one has a air leak so it will be used as a parts saw for my next Super EZ Auto.YouTube - homelite super ez auto
