How does the gear come off of the crank? I'm replacing the bearings/seals, and don't want to fubar the gear........

The tool is the best way but a little expensive,if you are gonna need it once.I removed mine with a simple 3 jaw puller.Grab underneath the bearing and it will drag out the gear.If the jaws are too thick as was in mine,no problem.Try with the two(the third won't fit because of the crankshaft's counterweight) and after it come out a little, you can place the three of them.

Hold the phone, I picked up 505-26091 and needed 503-26091. She sold me the wrong seal and I can't even find what this one fits........They are checking after I called them and see if they have the correct part number.

Granted I am going by JRed parts list but can someone give me the dimensions of the seal needed? This seal I have actually looks like it work like a Stihl, what I am getting at is this seal looks like it fits in the outer race instead of the case.......

Thats why I ask. When 505 lumped in with 415 475. Knew it took a different bearing seal deal on clutch side.

As far as I can tell Randy. The Jreds 2077 2083II 2083 used the same updated seal and bearing used on the 425 445 505. Not for use on 415 475. I hope I am wrong, but that is what I am seeing on my quick search and compare from the past. Maybe some of the older ones in jred got though before the update.

Wishing you luck though. That would be a great find on some NOS ones for 475.

Dimensions of seal needed are posted here and in a 475 thread elsewhere.

So I re-did some of my research on this seal for the Poulan 475 clutch side.
The seal measures ID. 17mm
OD. 35mm
Width. 4mm

Now what is hard to find about this seal is the width. I just could never find one that was only 4mm thick and if you put one in wider than that, then the oil pump will not mount flat against the saw. So with that said I found one seal that could be modified and could work.

It is a SKF 6814. It measures. ID. 16mm
OD. 35mm
Width. 7mm

I measured the actual width of the rubber seal itself and it is only 4mm in width. So the metal could be ground down to the required 4mm and I do not believe the ID being 1mm off would be a big deal.

So if I had a 475 that needed a seal for the clutch side that is what I would try.

475 seal info

The dealer said he thought he had some of the correct seals but it will be Tuesday before I can see. I will update at that time but I ain't real hopeful. I do apologize for getting hopes up....

Let me know if you try what we talked about. I dont want to pull a good saw down just to see if it will work or not. Thanks..

I thought of something else that might or will need changed if it will work though. Just thinking inside my pea brain thats a little pickled at the moment. :hmm3grin2orange:

Randy clutch side 505. We got a whole thread on it long ago between the two.

Are you sure that number is not suppose to be 503-260901 clutch side seal for a J-Red 2077.

The clutch side part # is different for the PP505 ( 503252002 ) PP475 ( 503422201 ) & Jred 2077 ( 503260901 ) , the flywheel side is the same for all three ( 505275719 ).

Just so you know. The # you gave is for the 505 is bearing seal set. Jred was the only one I know that listed the updated seal and bearing separate with 2 part #'s. ;)

Poulan 2300 CVA oil system

Started my 2300 to just run it for a short time. Wasn't oiling and I saw that the oil line was rotted. Removed what I think is the pump (pic). Where does the other end of line go? I see there is a check valve. Does it go there? I don't see an oil filter in the oil tank and I thought there should be a filter on the end of the line and then another going from pump to the output hole. Obviously I'm confused.

Ok guys, I did a search and saw a Thread by Heroze that explains it. Am I correct in assuming there is no fitting at the outlet hole and the line is merely inserted and then cut?
