McC 250 hot saw.

Can you gain anything messing with the ports on a 250 McCulloch??
Or would I be better getting a cart engine?

You can, but bolting in a 99cc MC-91 would be a lot easier. Plus, 91s don't achieve the pyscho prices the 101s do.

A 91b/1 is the way to go for some reason they just go and go hard i have one i use it a great bit of gear
