My barn fresh Craftsman cleaned up pretty good.
Now who can tell me what it is. I'm guessing a 3400?
Thanks, Brian

ThanksIt is a Poulan 3400. Cleaned up real nice. Good job.
What is the average compression on a 3400? I tested this one and it was a little over 120. That seems a little low.
Thanks, Brian
One thing I noticed, if there was ever a saw that needs a muffler mod it's this one. Wow is all I can say, I couldn't figure out where the exhaust comes out until I took the muffler off completely.Yep that is about normal. 120 to 125 seems to be where they are.
Don't judge it until you run it.
3.3 and 3.7 don't have external impulse lines. they impulse directly through the carb. no impulse lineWell I am glad I didn't have to do it that way, but when I get to redoing my craftsmen 3.3s and 3.7s I will give it a whirl. Thanks. I don't know why I am so much more enthusiastic about digging into the yellow ones.
Would you be willing to share your opinion on adding a chain brake to this saw? Don

Exactly. This particular saw is one of the "underrated" 3400's. It's actually 3.4ci/56cc and shares all parts (save the decals and possibly the b/c) with a 3.4 labeled Craftsman. Was falsely rated as 3.0ci to meet a lower price point. A case of getting 'more value for your money' than you were expecting.

Something is wrong as that saw is definetly not a 3.0.According to the model number, 358.36081, and my Craftsman Operator's Manual, it's 3.0 CI/ 49 CC. Not sure what Poulan model number that is.
It looks like a 3400 to me. With my high tech straw. [emoji4]3.0 bore for the 3000 and PP 305 is 1.745". For the 3400 it's 1.810", 1 .875 for the 3700 .
I figured as much. However I never could determine which Craftsman is a 3700 or 3800.It looks like a 3400 to me. With my high tech straw. [emoji4]
