cant beat a load of birch!
A load of rock Maple or Red Oak is more prized around here but that Birch was what was growing on that road right of way in that area. I harvested 43 cords of hardwood, 7,000 board feet of saw logs and 20 cord of pulp off that cut. All the trees were felled with my fleet of Stihl`s but a good deal of the firewood was bucked up with the Pioneers.

nice crew of saws, especially like the bow saw, great for fire wood, grew up in Louisiana in pulp wood country, bow saws were prime mover for late 60s though early 80s

Im looking to build a Poulan 3400 bow for fire wood

Still making firewood. Here it is in the middle of my original 30/50/70, 3-saw plan. At the time, the 28" bar was buried in oak. I've since added a 660 (not clone, with 32" bar) to the lineup, so I put a 24" bar on the Poulan. It's not a garage queen. I fixed it to run it. If it dies, it becomes a shelf queen. Until then, it gets dirty.

These are all getting older now. They still seem new to me (hell, auto bar oilers and chain brakes are new to me), but this was taken over 12 years ago. These saw models have all been replaced by one or two newer generations of saws. They are still making and selling the 260 and 361 in other parts of the world. Just not in these parts any more.
