I figured this might be an interesting topic. If anyone has a spike design that they really like, then uploading a template so we know what you're talking about would be appreciated by many.

I also am thinking it would be interesting to see what kind of "frankenspikes" people come up with.

For example, I saw a spike on one saw that another member had, and it was on a Pioneer. I like the design of the spike, but obviously, no one sells it to fit on the McCulloch 600/700/800 series saws.

That's where the template comes in, I can trace the spike pattern off the Pioneer spike, then trace the bolt pattern off the Mac spike. Simply draw a couple of lines to connect the traced patterns and use the template to cut a spike out.

So, if we share spike templates, we could create a virtually endless "aftermarket" spike supply, and maybe even make spikes that literally are one-off by making "frankenspikes"

Anyone with me?

edit: P.S. Thickness of spikes would be good info too.

Trace out your template, scan it into your computer and then create a PDF file of it. Print it out at 100% to check your dimensions.

390xp Dawgs

Here are the dawgs that I made a couple of weeks ago for my 390xp out of stainless steel.

Here they are next to a set of factory sized big dogs.

Here is a pdf of the dog from my XP1000 that I just got from fellow member HOSS. Turns out the program that came with my Canon MP560 will automatically build the pdf file for me. Let me know if this worked correctly.

Brad,
This looks like your 1050 "Big dawg"

EDIT:
For further information the spikes is 1/8" thick steel.

This may become a good thread...

Arrowhead, those spikes are even bigger! :msp_drool:

Roanoker, thanks!! I will be using that template soon.

All others, thanks as well, I plan to have a folder of spike templates... that's the idea. Spikes, spikes and more spikes... I figure it could be valuable information and templates for future saw lovers.

:msp_drool: Those are beautiful! :msp_drool: Be careful around those things... don't need to lose a finger now... :D

What a great idea, I'm going to try it. Anyone got a spike template for the Homelite 360?

Those Pioneer spikes are perfectly shaped. I still regret not being able to buy a pioneer (or Poulanpro version).
