Do you put an edge on a maul ???

I don't know about you guys with all these dull mauls. I use a Gransfors Bruks maul which is as sharp as an axe. It has a 5.5 pound head and splits anything. I've even had some luck splitting Elm. I've used alot of different mauls but this one is by far the best and its sharp. BTW, I know...

    timber wolf splitters????????

BVO, Iron & Oak splitter comparable in what way? Have you run the TW-5? Slipknot how are they overpriced? I suppose if I were going to split 5 to 10 cords a year I would just go down to home depot and buy their special of the month. On the other hand, if you are talking commercial application...

    charging for splitting wood.

I am in SE MA. I have a Timberwolf TW-5 and I charge 40 bucks an hour with a 2 hr minimum. I charge a minimum to make it worth loading everything up. I will buck wood that is already down and split. I don't stack. Woodho

What's a fair price for log splitting?

Timberwerks, I'll second that. I also have a Timberwolf TW-5 and I have easily split a full cord in one hour. In fact with two guys and the pile near the machine I've done it in 40 minutes. I love this machine. Woodho

    Milling lumber woodshop style

Woodshop, Thank you for your great descriptions. This has always fascinated me but I always thought it would be too expensive to get into. Since I already own saws capable of running these mills it might be feasible. Really enjoyed your deatiled descriptions and pics. You have obviously put...

    New log splitter

Guys, There is a lot of fancy calculations in this post. I've had the opportunity to use alot of the splitters out there. I bought the TW5 from Timberwolf. You will never look back. This splitter is incredible. Its not even their biggest. Is it expensive? Yes. However, if you want to do...

Broke the handle on my maul today, should my next one be wood or glass?

Hey guys, Get yourself a splitting maul from Gransfors Bruks. They are a Sweedish company that still makes handmade axes and mauls. The best one I've owned. Woodho

    MS250 for firewood?

Rich, When i started selling firewood I started out with the Stihl 025. It is a nice little saw. From your post it sounds that it will more than serve your needs. Assuming that you aren't bucking very large trees. The 044 is nice but alot heavier than the ms250 and will fatigue you after...

    Firewood time again!

Ax-man, The TW-2 does not have the power nor is it built for a six way wedge. I have seen several of these machines and they are nice for what they are meant to do. I think you might do some damage unless you are splitting rounds no larger than 8 to 10 inches. Take care. John

    Firewood time again!

Jokers, I bought a like new used conveyor for 3K. They are a fantastic combo to the splitter and still cheaper than the processor. Regarding small camp wood, Timberwolf has a TW-7 which is designed to do just that. Combine that with a bundler and you've got money in the pocket. Small bundles...

    Firewood time again!

Jokers, I have the TW-5 and it's an awesome machine. I love the 500lb log lift and this machine will split just about anything. Yes it's a high price tag but if you're serious about selling firewood you gotta have one. As far as processors, you are correct but keep in mind that the cheapest...

    Lessons learned

Cary, That's a great lesson for us to hear. I'm glad you are ok and took the time to relay the story here. We sometimes forget that now matter how experienced one is things can still go wrong. I'll remember this story for when I have to remove my backhoe. Woodho

    saw choices and prices.

vsteel, I bought my 372xp here in MA one the highest cost of living states. I looked on the internet and did some comparison shopping. When I was ready I took my stuff to the dealer and talked with him. I got my 372 for $620. Not the cheapest but I've got the dealer support and I didn't pay...

    skidding alternatives

Hey guys, I've got a Kubota B21 which is their industrial grade tractor/loader/backhoe. This machine is awesome. Most guys can't believe the power for its size and very rugged. I have no trouble using it for skidding and lifting logs. I use a lifting tongs on a chain off the bucket. As far...
