the problem is reaching into the bag to stack. you have to support it from top, and its pushing 6' tall. unless you have a way to put the bag in a hole so you can systematically toss them in, then i'd wager you could get a half cord in there.

they hold about .44 cord tossed in.

    whats everyone burning right now?

burning whatever comes up in the bag... this bag is mostly Ash and white oak. we finally got a cold night last night and again tonight. the previous few days we've been coasting on the heat pump.

finally got around to stacking all the logs and remembering to take some pictures. all but 4 cords of this pile are from Sandy cleanup work over the last week weeks. the saw in the pics sports a 24" bar. The longest pile is stuff 14-21' long, second pile is 7-12' and the shorts are 3-6'...

Firewood saw that is not a chainsaw

I would go the HF route. I used and destroyed a nice 12" lazer sliding compound miter saw doing the same task a few years ago. wish I had bought the cheap $89 saw HF offers and wouldn't have cared if it got destroyed.

Tomorrow I'll have to take a picture of my pile that we've generated mostly from Sandy. today we hauled in a heaping load of locust to add to the pile, everything up to the top of the can was 16-17' lengths. odd ball stuff on top. we hauled this load of white oak last week.

    Dump Bed Insert Opinions

i own two CAM (owned by brimar i believe) dump inserts, both 8'ers. for the $2700 price including a headache rack and tarp kit it is money well spent. they're fairy stout, but I've managed to tweak mine a little, but they've been through hell and back and always work. i believe mine are rated...

The big stuff is no longer off limits! 41" bar is here!

the bar will flex and it just drops off. you can tighten it down more but it'll burn up. down right dangerous if it spits it off. thats almost 10' of chain that can thrash around.

nice. the 88 is fun to run, but we never use ours for firewood duty. the logs are just too big to process without killing yourself. they go to anyone we can pawn them off on or to the dump. my buddy got his with a 59" bar on it and I call it the clown saw because its just rediculous looking...

CT School's new bio mass heating system

there is no shortage of wood chips around here. we have problems finding places to get rid of them after big storms like the hurricane we just went through. we're generating 15-30 yards of chips a day with one small crew. imagine a 3-4 crew company... i wish i could make a small scale...

    Finding Firewood (getting started)

call up some tree service companys and see if they have free wood they want to get rid of. if they're not selling firewood, then its a burden for them most likely. Otherwise, we have lots of scroungers here, they pick stuff up along the roadside after storms.

these ones were loaded with a new holland 185 skid steer that we had on the job. unloaded with my Kubota L48 back at the yard. BTW, that's 22' of deck on that trailer.

thankfully the butts you see at the back of the trailer are just the root flare. most of this was 16-22" DBH. I try not to take anything over 24" now, just too much work to deal with.

Started hauling in wood to split for 2013-14 over the last few weeks. this is load #4 of red oak from one house. Got another 8 cord decked up at another house that we'll haul in in a few weeks. right now i'm trying to shrink my current wood pile down to make room. Lot of guys selling wood...
