    Wood ID Referance

I hate to burst all your bubbles, but it's a yellow poplar, just like I said. I cut the thing up, and I'm burning it right now, and trust me, it's NOT an ash.

"Woodstove Wrist"? (Black line on wrist/arm)

I wear welding gauntlets so I'm usually spared, but every so often I reach in a bit too far and get a bit too close and end up with a nice strip on my forearm. I consider it a badge of honor.

    Ludell Splitting Axe

I got one, and the casting is cracked in the back from hitting it with a sledge just like everybody else's. If they had made the back thicket to withstand a sledge hit it would be the perfect maul.

    Parents shopping for wood stove

Did anybody mention Jotul yet? :) The F500 Oslo will heat 2100 sq ft without sweating.

    Wood ID Referance

This one's a big'un (42" cross section) I bucked up in Spring. There are additional pics in my gallery: http://www.stovenet.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=6

Creosote.. How much is to much

While I agree that people are over concerned about creosote, especially with how clean today's stoves burn, I would say your dad is overdoing a bit. Here is what I would consider excessive build-up in a chimney. I can't imagine having what your dad has. I can't even believe his stove worked...

    Echo Leaf Blower PB-251

I think I've settled on buying an Echo PB-251 leaf blower. I have a few of their chainsaws (CS-346 and CS-670) and I've been very happy with them. This blower retails for $169. It seems that all the manufacturers have changed their online sales policies, since I cannot seem to find Echo...

Another Wood ID for you guys

I agree with Wdchuck. Definitely mulberry. Get it split now, it takes forever to dry out. Chris http://www.StoveNet.com

Ok, so we all love cutting it, but what about burning it? (Wood, that is...)

I've heard you're supposed to do a small "break in" fire every year with a soapstone stove to try and reduce chances of cracking by slowly driving any accumulated moisture out. I've heard of cracks on the Hearthstones but you're the first I've heard about cracking a Woodstock. The Woodstocks...

Ok, so we all love cutting it, but what about burning it? (Wood, that is...)

Neither case. I am kicking around putting an addition on my house and the Keystone is the stove I'd like to put in it. I had that picture saved off (can't remember where I got it, somewhere on Woodstock's site) and figured I'd throw it up in the Gallery. I'd like to get at least one picture...

Ok, so we all love cutting it, but what about burning it? (Wood, that is...)

Wow, my bad. I never noticed that. You could spend your entire life here in the Chainsaw forum, which apparently I have...

Ok, so we all love cutting it, but what about burning it? (Wood, that is...)

I've created a new forum for people who burn wood stoves (and other stoves) for heat. I figure some of my fellow saw lovers must throw a split or two in the 'ol metal hot box from time to time. :) www.stovenet.com I've wanted to create a forum for quite some time as a hobby, but I never...

Tractor Engine Shuts Down After Awhile

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check the carb next time it happens. If it is vapor lock, how do I prevent it?

Tractor Engine Shuts Down After Awhile

I have an older Simplicity Sovereign 7016 tractor for mowing my lawn. It has a Briggs and Stratton 16HP engine, with points and a coil. Lately, it will lose power after being run for about a half an hour. If I cut the throttle and shut the PTO off it will stay running, but if it...

    Found dead rat in woodpile...

I suspected an infestation in the woodshed in early fall, so I put some rat poison in a few strategic places. The poison promptly disappeared after placement. Well, I finally worked my way to the very back stack this week, and found the culprit. He was totally dried out, and as I kicked...

    Filing angle for 35LG

I purchased a few loops of 35LG for my brother's MS260 Pro. The box (Oregon) says the filing angle is 25 degrees, but the chain looks to be more like 30 degrees. It is definitely a steeper angle then the stock chain, which looks to be 25 degrees. What do you guys think?

    Log splitter

I'm sure the Timberwolf is a great splitter, but for $5500, I would still buy the Husky, and then pay some kid $5 a hour to split my wood for me! I only split wood for home use, so a little extra time is no big deal. I just got tired of splitting by hand. Out of curiosity, I looked up what...

    Log splitter

Huskee Log Splitter Well, I bought the TSC Huskee 35ton/12 HP splitter this weekend. I must say, this thing is amazing. I split some pretty ugly logs and it went through everything no problem. I posted earlier about wanting a Honda engine, and it turns out this splitter is available with...

    Log splitter

If you read to the bottom of Mark's linked thread, he states he paid $2500. Out of my price range. It seems to me that the Timberwolf splitters are very expensive. If you compare the specs of the TW2 to the $1500 TSC Huskee splitter, the Huskee blows it away (on paper anyway). What...

    Log splitter

The $1500 Husky splitter is a horizontal/vertical splitter. As such, the wedge is attached to the ram. Do you know if it is possible to get a 4 way wedge for a splitter like this? After looking into it some more, the Husky splitter seems to be a very good value.
