    Large Limb Removal Under Pressure

If you aren't trying to save the smaller trees can you secure the tip of the limb and just cut and drop the butt section?

    Large Limb Removal Under Pressure

Difficult to say without seeing it.

    cedar root/stump removal

That's a common cause for forest fires here. The fire goes deep into the root system and can come up several feet away from where the fire was originally set. I have seen it happen.

Nickrosis; Were the students instructed to take a piece that large that close to the ground or were they managing the job themselves?

    No more pant'n

Brad; I just use the distal and the pantin. I would consider an ascender for rec climbing but I don't bother with it when working a tree.

    Work is picking back up

I was patrolling a section of cable along a secondary highway today. The transportation contractor was buzzing up and down the road with a brush hog on a cat ripping braches off the trees. What a mess! So much for trying not to gaff the trees.

    No more pant'n

Thanks Tom; There is a hole in the cam already. I didn't alter the original design in any way.

    No more pant'n

Tom, I thought of the biner but concluded it would be too bulky and uncomfortable. With a quick snap I don't have to give it another thought, the rope is locked in and I can take some decent strides with the tool.

    No more pant'n

I'll try and get a picture of it tomorrow. One strap is a piece of suede riveted to the hole in the cam and another leather strap which has a slot for one of the nylon straps. The two pieces of leather are joined with a snap that makes it a snap to disable.

    No more pant'n

Brian; I've tried it every which way but loose. It's more of a problem with the heavier ropes like kernmantle. Now I can use it either way, restricted or unrestricted, the option is mine.

    No more pant'n

I finally got fed up with my rope jumping out of my Pantin with every other step so I made a keeper for it which allows it to close but restricts the opening so the rope can't jump out. It consists of two leather straps connected with a snap so I can still release the rope when I reach my...

    Bore cut for felling

I only use the bore cut where I need it. It's excessive wear and tear on the tip of the bar. You'll burn out a sprocket nose prematurely if you use it for boring on a regular basis.

    Bore cut for felling

You should always use a bore cut on any large leaner.

    Storm damage to a birch

I'm not an arborist but I have an opinion. :D Paper Birch are garbage trees, get rid of it and get yourself a decent tree.

    Hinge Pocket Pressure Rig

Ken, your mail box is full . The problem as I see it is there are too many variables between species, age, climate etc. What works well in one location on a specific tree may not react in the same manner under different conditions somewhere else. I think trees are species specific even...

    Hinge Pocket Pressure Rig

Trees being different in fiber won't always react in the same manner.

    protective pants

I've been wearing Husky chaps in the trees and on the ground for a few years now, they work for me. There was a company at TCI that was touting a new type of chainsaw wear . Much lighter, I believe he was waiting for the UL certification before marketing them. Can't think of the company but I...
