Thanks Thanks for the comment I was beginning to feel like I was wrong. Safety?, Second lanyard?, Two handing a saw? What are these things? PPE is an anacronym some guys don't know yet. They will learn it, probably later than sooner, but they will.

    I'm gettin' tired of this!!

Timber hauler I hear you. I sympathize. My thoughts are this: If I could set the price for treework I would and it would be high! Let all the politics aside and consider, I risk my life for money. Bottom line, I don't do this for fun. That is a side benefit for me because I have to work to...

    I'm gettin' tired of this!!

pricing wars What a serious disussion, I'll keep it brief and readable. We all started somewhere. Inform clients when you are bidding that they are taking risks with no insurance. Who do they think is going to pay if something goes wrong? Ask them, I find often, they think it is cost...

    burn out

reply to beowolf343 Maybe I am crazy, but when I left that movie I wanted to kill trees. Fortunately, that is just what I did today. I started with a nice maple for breakfast. Right before lunch I munched through two tall lanky cherries, and a typical pin oak. After lunch I slayed a huge...

    I'm gettin' tired of this!!

re-bidding Like recycling, they take your bid and tell the next guy "I already have a lower price, or I've got someone who will do it cheaper!" Ever hear that one before? Just have Faith my friend, sooner or later the will come back, they always do. Next time your in their neigborhood fire up...

this is my silky...ODE TO THE IBUKI Hey does anybody else feel that feeling... when you are wielding your silky. It must be akin to the feeling of THOR with his mighty hammer. The silky saw... oh, I could write poetry about this awesome weapon. ODE to the silky, soul of the arborist...

dangers of climbing? It wouldn't be soo much fun if it was easy! If everybody could do it? I like watching people who think they can climb find out how hard it really is. I climb every day Thank God! I would have it no other way. I'm a greedy boss's wet dream!

    fell out of tree

widow maker The tree that we were removing was in a clump of trees on a very steep hill overlooking a log home. I was asked to jump cut some pretty large limbs into the forest below. If it had been up to me, I would have roped some of the limbs down, but that takes time and my boss is a time...

    fell out of tree

I fell 10 feet on a descent from a white pine when my rope creeped out of the crotch and the limb broke. I was lucky! and no broken bones. My wrist was severely strained and is just now almost fully recovered. I was alone when I fell. My crew of seven men were in the front yard of the...

    drunks and gypsies????

great topic I'm an oakman by day and eucman by night. I've worked with all the above, When I meet another climber it doesn't take long to figure it out. I'll climb with any one, any time. The proof is in the pudding. The worse climber of all is one who thinks they know it all. Why do...

    ACRT EHR Training

Acrt ACRT is a great place to start. As with everything else in this industry, you have to pull your own self up. It is what you make of it. I've worked with plenty of groundmen who don't even know a bowline!

    burn out

prevent burnout go watch the new frank miller film 300, and know that if you're a tree climber then your spartan as well! What else could we do in today's world if there were no trees to slay. I'm just glad to be back working full time again. Stay safe!

    trimming a pin oak

It is interesting that just two days ago, my uncle Duane asked me to come to his farm and to do some tree work for him. As it happens, one of the problem trees is a pin oak. I concur that it is an ugly tree, but I didn't make it. I can however prune it. Dr. Shigo (check Sherill Co.) has...

    Hurricane Clean-UP

I'm with you Treeslayer. If one is going down there to "HELP", Don't hate me for saying it, but HELP is HELP not Commerce. I've done my share of rescue, all the way back to Hugo, And if you aren't prepared, your just another victim. Don't plan on a nice hotel and full meals, prepare to be...
