Your thoughts on a new saw.

Had a bit of a bad weekend a few weeks ago. Two saws went down in one session. The 1st a ported 346 popped a circlip, the 2nd a Dolmar 5000 had a lean seize. Both are running now after swapping out the pistons. the circlip wrecked the piston but the cylinder was fine. After a clean up, and no...

    Time for a second saw

I think you get more for your money with the Dolmar, and what the lads have said with the previous pots is true.

Wolter its a shame really that people are so silly not to try the other saws out there.;) Let them crawl under their stone. I use all 3 brands and a chinese to boot. It all really depends upon how the saw is used and maintained. The stihl saws used at the college I´m at are hopeless. They never...

Your thoughts on a new saw.

Hi Matt, I do not have a sophisticated scales just one for fish. I weighed the 5000 so good as I could at about 5kg and a bit. So I think the factory weight of 5.1kg is about right.

In an ideal world this, the 6100, would have been the one I would have bought. Funny enough the guy I bought the 5000 off replaced it with a 6100. The saw was used for firewood and it came from Bavaria, Germany. When I fired it up and used it for a while, I took the top off to check the plug...

I put the 15" on the dolly as I knew what size of wood I was cutting and 18" would have been overkill. I am using .325 chains at mo. 15" husky bar .058 Husky semi chisel chain. You are right in saying the 346 and 15" is good, it is my normal set up. I quite like the Husky chain, it has lasted...

So an update on the Dolmar 5000. Had a chance to use it all day yesterday. Nice solid first impressions. Worked fine with one or two observations. Weight feels about the same as the 346. Holding them both together but with a lightweight oregon 18" bar on the 346 and 15" husky bar on the Dolly...
