When the single bit axe thread was up and I told him I carry a dead blow hammer instead (to drive wedges) he went ballistic on me. To me it was a simple case of what choice do I make and he makes, sorta a chocolate and vanilla situation........

This is a total hijack, but I'm thinking of switching to a stubby sledge for wedges. I carry an axe, but honestly can't remember ever using it to chop out a saw. Randy is gonna build me a ill-tempered 394, and the outboard clutch may make it more likely that I'd pinch it and not be able to switch bars, but at least with the 385, when I get stuck I just put on the back up bar and chain and cut myself out. Chopping stuff with an axe is tiring

I'm no feller, logger, or any other kind of professional cutter (so weigh my opinion appropriately). I use a 4 pound 'stubby sledge' hammer that I got from Harbor freight for about $12 a few years ago. Works great for driving wedges. I also have an axe, but seldom drive wedges with it. Slamm would probably have a field day with that....

You cannot just start posting here, and expect to hijack someone's years of threads and contributions, just saying....

I have been here for a real long time, and have helped a few folks with their saws. As well as their trimmers, blowers, lawn mowers.

As many others have done, and have help make this one of the hottest sites on the internet, so when referring to older members, they need to be respected, no matter how politically incorrect they were, or well, how popular they are now. One should judge a member by his threads, and how many
dozens or hundreds he has/or not helped here!!!

    Or not....

He did have a field day with me, I just blew it off......

This is cut and pasted from that thread, my comments and his response........

    My post:
I use a 4# dead blow hammer from Harbor Freight. Bright orange and it works, also carry a DB axe, never had a use for SB. Everything fits well in the truck or Ranger bed rack.

    His comments:
?How can you write that with a straight face. It makes no sense. You're so manly you have to use some 4# dead blow hammer and then a Single Bit isn't tough enough you need a Double Bit axe and yet you have NEVER HAD A USE FOR A Single Bit???????????????

That doesn't even make any sense. Do you grunt loudly as you hold your Paul Bunyan Double Bit over your shoulder while looking down at the small people that use Single Bit axes, LOL.

You're too manly for me, LOL.

Giving good advice doesn't last for very long, as does giving bad advice.....

Pretty much a big waste of a dozen years, just to be toyed with.

I favor respectful posts, and typically I won't argue any point I've made. Bad or good advice, I don't charge for it.
