I've been eyeing some racks full of 4x4s at work for a while. Finally I told the boss I'd take em and drove the truck into work to get them. It turns out those racks hold more than I thought!

Now I gotta go unload em! The box is stacked full crossways plus what you see above the bed. Some will be used for stacking wood on, some will get cut up for the firepit. They're all heat treated pine, 4 and 5 footers. Heat treated does not mean dry, though. Some are real heavy yet. I'll bust one open and put the MM on it just to see how wet later.

If anyone local wants some, PM me and you can come get ya some.

Hey! Pine should make some dandy fire pit fodder!!! Smells good, burns good...
I'd call that a good find!

AAAkkkk! I'd have a hard time burning milled wood, unless it was real small insignificant off cuts, oddball sizes, etc.. I'd build something from those 4x4s.

Heck,I am even contemplating as soon as my larger truck is running good to not cut up the larger logs, and sell them as saw logs instead, and only burn the very tops and branches, the small stuff.

Either way, your wood, your score, good for you, FreeTUs!

Yup, it'll be nice campfire wood, and the "HT" stamps (and being pine) will let me bring it with camping - bonus is being bark free (less mess in the camper rig!) I'd burn it in the house if I needed it, but I don't, so I likely won't, except maybe to make some kindling from it.

Just not much ya can build out of shorts. I plan on a cant holder out of a few of em, just so I have a place to test saws and practice cookie cutting. Other than that, I can't think of many things to build out of 4-5' pieces. They're not treated, so retaining walls, etc. is out. Maybe a "brick s**thouse" dog house? Miniature timber frame? Dangit, Zogg, now you've got me thinking - that can be scary!

..actually, that's exactly what I had in mind. Too bad they ain't cedar though. But a little log cabin styled doghouse would be stout. A bear to move it around though.

Butcher block outdoor table/furniture? You'd have to finish it well though.

Soon 'dog cabins' will be all the rage and short 4x4's will be worth a premium.

I finally had to unload the truck. My friends kept driving by and not stopping, they could see work...

Anyhow, got 11 cu ft of 5 footers (pile of misc. oddball pieces in the background, need to stack the stuff in front of it up neater before I start mowing in the next week or two):

A 4' square cube of 4 footers, 64 cu ft. Stacks of oak in the background, along with a pile of splitter trash and punky wood that needs cleaned up also:

5 cu ft of 3' pieces behind the 4'ers, Ruby chilling out in the shade of the oak stacks. Dark wood on top of the oak is a little 2 1/2 year aged ironwood I had to move to stack the 4 footers:

80 cubic feet of solid wood. That's a number I've heard tossed around as equivalent to a full cord of split, stacked firewood. So, if true, while the debate may still rage over whether you can get a full cord on an F250, you sure as heck can get one on a K1500.

Not pictured is my 55 gallon trash can full of those dang plastic wraps. They might have made the wood last longer when I stack on top of them, but they looked like s**t, so off they came.

I would like to use endgrain pavers for the floor in a planned shop addition. To make it cost effective I would need to get the material for free. There are a bunch of old industrial (machine shop, foundries, etc) with engrain floors that are over 100 years old. They used Creosote treated endgrain pavers for streets and driveways.

I've heard they are very comfortable to work on due to their slight irregularitiesand "softness" compared to concrete.

Kinda on-topic; I picked up about thirty 12 foot long pieces of 4"x12" ash planks from a millwork shop here on the island; they're just too nice to burn but to get a hold of pine pieces like those...i'd be in heaven. i'd be selling doghouses, chairs, benches ... very nice score you got there!

Seems like a waste to throw them on the bonfire pile. Sawhorses???? That is what you need to build, sawhorses. :blob2:

Brian

Just what I need, a hundred pairs of sawhorses!

Post them on CraigsList for $1 / piece and spend it on something you really want!

Or build yourself some really nice work benches.

Philbert

I fear that if work found out I sold them, they'd want to "cut out the middle man" and sell them too, even though they PAY to get rid of em if people like me don't take em.

The 3' pieces met the chainsaw and the Fiskars yesterday, I left most full size, but split some for kindling. Pine knots make splitting small stuff a b***h, lots of short pieces and chunks with one small end and one big end. I intend to test their worthiness as campfire wood this afternoon. (I suspect they'll pass the test, but you just gotta make sure!)

Tell Ruby not to get too comfortable under there!

If I was you, I would bring them out into a field and put them in a pile and have a big bon fire with them :)

:msp_scared: My wife wants to do that to a wall in our basement, with log ends.

I've seen pics and I dont like it much.

I told her if she likes that look so much, she can sleep in the woodshed...

:msp_sad: To the 3 of you that "liked" this post...I need a place to stay for a little bit :msp_biggrin:
