there seems to be some confusion, early dolmars had the nylon filter, the newer ones have the flock material that doesn't come apart, the prefilter with the flock is solving the filter loading problem. as far as fine dust, every saw i own gets loaded with it.

I guess Im just spoiled by Stihl's HD filter setup. I have never had any problems whatsoever. Never does even the finest dust get through them on my saws. Plus they last a long time.

The plastic on the 7900 is fine, the plastic on my 361 is in no way better. The carb to cylinder mount is similar to husky's setup, and I personally like it better than Stihls setup. The throttle cable is also fine, I actually prefer it.

The early chain adjusters were weak, and they would easily break. The newer ones won't brake, but they're not as smooth or as easy to use as Stihls.

The filter could be better, but I haven't had any clogging issues. It does however let in some fine dust, but then again so does the filter on my 361.

I think the 7900 is a good strong saw that will last most people a lifetime.

 Andy.

I need another drink or something after all of this!! Having flashbacks!!!!!

GO DAN, BUY A SAW, RUN THE SAW, BE HAPPY!!!!!

you could find a nice 066/660 for less than the cost of a new 7900. after having a 660, I couldn't ever settle for less.

LOLOL, has a decision been made yet on what saw ya gonna go bigger with yet Volk?

Did some of you guys not read his comments? He doesn't have a $1000 budget and he wants the lightest saw possible. Does this not exclude the 660?????????????????????????

Yes we get it, the 660 is a more powerful saw, but it does not fit his criteria...

Okay, then I vote for a 3120 or an 880 (although I like my 3120 better). Does this help the OP with his dilemma?

He also said there are no Dolmar dealers in his area so I guess that knocks out the 7900, so the 460 it is, good choice on his part I say, hehehe

Nothing glaring... It's a decent cutting saw... Not as "solid" as a 460/660 (wimply plastic) and the throttle cable leaves much to be desired. I don't like the carb to cylinder mount, but...

If you want used parts, good luck - Dolmar has a tiny market share.

Chain adjuster ..... hmmm...

Yes, the filter sucks.. but given the amount of wood you cut, I doubt your choice will make much difference:greenchainsaw:

I'd also say the dawg mounts aren't all that great on the 7900. The dawgs themselves are better then a stock 460 but not as good as a double dawg equipped 460.

However the way they're mounted to the 7900 saw frame looks like they could break off easier then on a 460 given some abuse.

And we've seen plenty of broken dawg ears on this forum and it's a tough repair to get back to factory strength.

It's little details like this that Dolmar needs to refine.
