So everytime we buy a used saw off of e-bay or C-list should we see if it's a hot saw?

If you buy a saw from this guy, you might want to check to see if it's hot:

But if you buy from this guy, you're probably OK.

Well, it doesn't mean that lumberjack didn't steal it, but it does make your chances better that it is legit, IMO.

But let's be more realistic. You buy a saw from someone that knows nothing about saws, and can't start it for you because they do not know how. They give you a shady story about a friend of a friend's cousin...

Contrast that with someone that bought the saw 3 years ago and just wants it out, it was used to cut a tree or two down...believe it or not, there are folks on craigslist that do just want to get rid of stuff...or an old guy that used to use the saw and is too old to get out in the yard, etc...

The point is that we can't generalize about each situation on there, each saw lives a life of it's own! ;)

Your selection above gets the point across. :D

But what's with that gay lumberjack? *lol*

add: OTOH, if your looking to buy crack, the first guy is more likely to be selling your the right stuff, the gay lumberjack would be suspect...LOL and not to poo-poo on the OP, that is a GREAT deal, the first rule on the inet is to never tell anyone you bought it from a crack dealer...*lol* (just kidding;))

Spend much time surfing the internet for gay lumberjacks? Not that there's anything wrong with that. If that's your gig.

Just my extra dry sense of humor at work. Wiggle I really didn't mean anything buy it.

The deal does sound too good to be true but.....

These are crazy times, and you never know what kind of situation the original owner was in. Perhaps he needed money asap, or perhaps he had a chemically induced habit and all he had to trade was the saw. Either way it was bought after being advertised on CL. I would take it at face value, it was a great deal and today was his lucky day. If he gets contacted in the future and the saw turns out to be stolen then he should turn it over immediately, but until that day comes (if it ever does) great find.

If the owner finds you with it, and does not hurt you, the authoritys will throw you in jail.

How do I know this?

O ya it happend to me...

You have been beaten up and thrown in jail? Your on a roll

So the mystery of Jay Browning's missing 660 finally comes to an end.

Arrhhhhh, You're so smart:chainsaw:

Anyone can steal, it doesn't have a face. Just because someone may look honest doesn't make them honest. Just because someone may look shady doesn't make them a theif.

In this case though maybe, but I'm not as smart as you:chainsaw:

Run it. You bought it thru CL. If there were any emails, save them. Next time get a bill of sale. Cut some wood. If you feel guilty, have the #'s run.

I'd at least run it through the Stihl system to see if it has been reported stolen. Sweet looking 660 for $300!!:jawdrop:
