Hose Clamps

I checked all 4-hose clamps and each took a couple turns and seem tight. I don't won't to go much tighter and risk cutting into the hoses.

Looks like to me if a lot of those hoses are blowing off and not bursting Speeco needs to change the fittings like those on the cylinder. I would imagine they have not received enough complaints about this.

I think I'll hunt for an address and let them know.

E Mail to Speeco

I found an Email address and Speeco is a sponsor on our site. Here is a copy of what I sent them. Could be we will hear something from them.

I notice Speeco is a sponsor at Aborist Site of which I am a member. Currently there is a thread being posted to by a few members who have recently purchased the Huskee 35 Ton Splitter and I am one too.

Some have experienced hoses blowing off and spraying oil shortly after first using them. These are the hydraulic hoses which are using hose clamps. So far I have not experienced this problem myself.

You may check the postings at this thread.

It's standard practice for me to check hose connections and retighten every season. I think you'll find that the manual probably mentions this. It wouldn't surprise me that these things loosened up a little between China and the USA.
Any hydraulic system should be gone over before first startup.

Did it blow at the crimp on the end.If so likely a poor crimp. New hoses usually won't blow in the middle without being damaged first.

If the latter was the case it might be time to check the relief valve setting with a 3500 psi guage.

Ken

Talked to my co-worker and he said it did blow at the crimp. If I remember right, Speeco had him a new hose in 3 days.

On my splitter one line is attached at both ends with hose clamps (believe it's the return line). No damage was done to the line, I just think the hose clamp was not tight enough. In my case I'll be tightening both existing clamps and adding a second clamp to each end. Should take care of the problem.

Reread your first post! Maybe I should check my clamps before next use. Haven't touched them since it was assembled.

My pile of Hickory I drug out Wednesday with an Ash and a Beech thrown in. Surprisingly the hose blew off on an Ash round but after I had split a dozen or so of the Hickory.

Nice Jeep!

Speeco splitters are assembled in the USA not China.

Probably wouldn't have happened if they had been assembled in China.
The instructions probably lost something in the translation, on the way from the mother country.

LOL, scary thought "The mother country" ..... Seriously though, the splitters are engineered and assembled here in the U.S.

My 35 ton return hose has blown off the fitting three times...each time spraying hot oil all over the place. I have tightened the hose after each episode, but on the last tightening it just started to cut into the hose. I definately think Speeco has a problem here. Why not just use the same type of hose as the supply...I think that's a 3000psi hose with screw on fittings.

Check Your Hoses

I got my splitter out today and was putting on the doubled up hose clamps and noticed a problem with my lower hose which does not use hose clamps.

It was routed under the frame but was turned tightly into the frame then comes up next to the engine. The vibration has already worn a groove in the hose and metal wire fibers are protroding.

Better check the position of your hoses. I sending this photo to Speeco and they may send me a new hose -- maybe ???

I also have a huskee splitter, the unit is about a year and a half old. I have recently noticed the hoses getting soft and even softer when warm. At what point do you know it is time to change?

On mine just the return hose is soft...got a new hose filter and oils ....not to change the subject but anyone use a 4 way wedge on this splitter...I really want to try one.

What's going on with them people? You would think they would know better. Lucky they don't build airplanes. Let us know if you get the new hose. Going out and checking the 34T right now. Thanks for the heads-up.

The hose on my 35T comes up and rubs against the top corner of the muffler when the cylinder is in the horizontal position. When I shut the splitter off I take a splinter of wood and stick it between the muffler and the hose while the muffler cools off, but there is a visible mark on the hose already. I'm goiong to reroute it. I can afford new hoses, I can not afford broken hoses.

:agree2:
Thing is you can spend $300000+ on a machine made by a major equipment mfg (think Cat Deere etc) and have hose routing and length screw ups too, only they are a lot harder to find and change until you have 50 gallons of oil on the loose.

That is the way this one was routed on mine too. Between the heat shield and downward against the frame. I now have that hose away from the frame and routed on the other side of the engine by the gas tank.

I sent Speeco an Email and I hope to hear from them.

I just got an Email from Speeco. I was told that hose needs replacing and they are going to ship a new one to me. I'll keep you posted and reply when I receive it.

I can't see them installing a hose that way. They seem like a first class operation. I'm starting to think that the big box stores get the splitters and they put the hoses on at the stores. I'm sure that Speeco has a very good process and some one just isn't following it. Glad that you'll get the new hose. The sad part is you having to change it. Our splitter looks as good as it runs.

Later Email From Speeco

I just received another Email from Speeco and it said my new hose is on the way. The fellow was apologetic and did not place the blame on either his company or the final assembly at the retailer but said it could have been at either place. I tend to think it is the final assembly at the retail level.

I told him about this thread on Arborist Site and others were having problems with hoses blowing off the connectors because of hose clamps not being tight enough. Haven't had a reply about that last Email I sent. But I have thanked him for his quick reply and taking care of my problem.
