Ha, there you are you ole rascal !!!

If many pro loggers like modded saws, there must be a real production advantage. We all like runners that cut wood effectively, so I personally have nothing against running modded saws for private use or as an independant contractor. That is a personal choice, and after all, it's a free world.

Fact however is that modded saws may be violating OHSA and EPA regulations ; I am not sure what the consequenses maybe in case of an accident with a smartass involved, especially if they are used by employees.

Good point ole boy, I too have nothing againist the hobbiest modding their saws or the logger wanting one to gain a advantage of some sort in the woods. I got nothing againist the guy making some dough doing it for others, thats between the two parties, no sweat off my hiny.

I still don't understand all the negative replies to the e-mail. Its nothing more than a suggestion laced with some facts no one seems to like, its not like it said you mod that saw and we will come burn your house down.

You are correct a modded saw does indeed violate EPA regulations. I actually have a customer that works for EPA in DC. I keep his little 026 and FS85 running like new. He and me actually discussed this modding deal one day here at the shop. He said catching modders at home isn't really a top priorty on their do list, they rather spend more time and money catching manufacturers, yes they want the big fish, not the minnow. I asked him what would happen if a modded saw got in the wrong hands and someone got hurt and file suit. He said that would be a total nitemare for the modder for not only would OSHA take it up but they would notify them, EPA, as well. Is that 200.00 mod job worth that risk, not to me and thats mainly all Stihl was pointing out in the e-mail..

Yeah that's true, but some of us like the tourque advantage. Why run a 660 when you can get er done with a tourqued out 460? At the end of the day your arms will thank you.;)

Well then go for it, mod that baby. Just don't try to tell me its legal because it is not even though I don't care, knock yourself out man, mod away.

Far as wanting a smaller modded saw to do the work of a stock bigger saw thats cool. However the smaller modded saw engine is now under more stress than it was designed for to get the same power of the stock designed bigger saw. If the crank and bearings of a 460 could handle the stress of the 660 why isn't the 460 crank in there, why I bet there is a reason, wonder what it is,:monkey::monkey::monkey:LOL

Yeah we've been through this before and you are right. I used to mess with 2-stroke race engines and parts fail at the higher stresses. You just rebuild with higher stress parts. In my opinion NONE of the saw manufacturers build a current product that I would use stock, but thats me and thats how I fly:laugh:

Anyways Tom aren't you the "stihl spy" to begin with?:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww your such a meanie, funny as hell though, haha

My rep. was just in and he told me they have 15-20 interns in the legal department that monitor various "websites of interest to Stihl". And they also try to buy up any modified Stihl saws that they can off of those "websites of interest", and they are torn down to gather information then, the saws are destroyed.

Along with those duties they make a mean cup of coffee, get lunch, run errands take care of Fred Whites dry cleaning.

From the Husqvarna 372 XP owners manual:

! WARNING! Under no circumstances may the
design of the machine be modified without
the permission of the manufacturer. Always
use genuine accessories. Non-authorized
modifications and/or accessories can result
in serious personal injury or the death of the
operator or others. Your warranty may not
cover damage or liability caused by the use
of non-authorized accessories or
replacement parts.

Do not modify this product or use it if it appears to have
been modified by others.

Why the paranoia guys? It's just a little corporate butt-covering, and they all do it. Stihl just took it one step further with the Jehovah's Witness approach.

Maybe Tommy is right...perhaps they are on the cutting edge.

Don't blame ya, #2 usually doesn't like #1.:D

Whats the big deal?. Any manufacture will voice their displeasure on modifications done to their product. The auto companys will void the warranty if modify the vehicle you purchased from them. Nothing new, it has been going on for years.

We mod saws beacause we like to. We know the warranty is gone, so what.
