Could someone explain why shipping a used saw to Canada is such a problem?

Alot of things on E-bay are US only.
Last week I made a deal for 2 saws. 1 ebay saw and 1 on here.

To get the E-bay saw I had to have it shipped from NY to a friend in Ohio. He will then ship to me. The second deal feel thru because to use sellers words," too much hassle to ship to Canada".

I sell worldwide with no issues. I go to the PO, give the address and $ and away it goes.

What or who makes it so hard to do the same in the US?

Lazy people is what it comes down to. It does take longer, but you just have to know it will and be willing to wait. I've shipped many things and never had a problem. You have to use USPS, NOT UPS!! UPS will kill you with brokerage fees.

I find it very frustrating actually, since there are so many things I'd buy from Americans, but they wont ship to me.

Will your painting with a broad brush there calling everyone lazy, and thats not a fair thing to do. Several here including myself have pointed out legitmate reasons for not wanting to ship to Canada.

I find it very frustrating that goods from the US are taxed coming into Canada but not into the US from Canada. Seems there would be alot more sales from the US to Canada if not for that.

99% of the stuff I sell on Feebay goes to the USA and I fill out a declaration for each one.....It's not a big deal. I think a lot of US sellers are just "unsure" of what it entails to ship to Canada. Like others have mentioned, the most important thing is to ship USPS and not with a courier. Those couriers rip us off here in Canada so bad for brokerage, that it's enough to make you never want to buy from the US ever again.

I am usually either shipping to the US or picking up something that I've bought from the US, everyday at my post office!

I guess I've been doing it for so long that I never think twice about it taking 2-3 weeks for something to arrive from the US.....I do manage to get packaged to the US in 5-10 days on the other hand.

It's frustrating when US seller don't want to ship to Canada, but it's their loss, missing out on a market in their back yard.

Jerry your the kind of Canadian buyer I would sell to on ebay. Notice I said useally wont, not never.

If the buyer is alright with waiting on it then thats fine with me.

Someone else mentinoned the hassle of going to the post office, well that fits me as well as I can have UPS pickup at work. If I work overtime like I have been, I cannot get to the post office during businness hours so that shipment might have to wait till Saturday to get shipped.

My lovely wife stops at the post office for me but I try to limit asking her to do that more then once or twice a week out of courtesy to her.

I

Mark,..I have a list of sellers that sell Stateside or put stuff up quite often on eBay, they ship to me even though they have a no International shipping or ship only to the lower 48 stipulation on their adds or site. All it took was for me to contact them and workout the procedure, some I took through the whole deal ,step by step and once they did ship to me they have continued to do so. If it is an eBay auction item I always leave very favourable feedback for them, I never mention about the long shipping times as the sellers have no control over it and if it takes them 4,5 or seven days to get to the Post Office then so be it. I bought an 046 from a fellow over in Ohio, he was 5 days getting to the Post Office and actually contacted me all in a big dither after about 10 days from the closing of the auction. He wanted to know if I had recieved the saw and I told him I did not expect it for at least 20-30 days. He was very relieved and told me he had some family matters that held him up from getting it mailed off, when I told him it was not a big issue with me he was flabbergasted, could hardly believe that I was not going to NEG rep him to say. When I got the saw it was all he had stated that it was and I gave him very favorable feedback. Today we do business 4-6 times a year with absolutely no issues, I have sent him stuff and he reciprocates.
The few sellers that I contact, that refuse to ship through USPS, then I thank them and move on to new territory, I have enough of a network now to provide myself with most anything I may need. I am always opening up new contacts and must say that the majority of sellers State side can be convinced to ship if a little effort is put into play in advance.

I'm sorry, I apologize if you think I was calling you lazy, I didn't say everyone. Most people wont and don't care, I call that lazy, I understand your reasons, the people just have to be aware of the stipulations when shipping to Canada. I had a US seller tell me he wont ship to Canada because it requires him to go to the post office, LAZY. I'll ship anywhere, it broadens my market, I've shipped all over the world.

Even worse Will, ..are the ones that do go to the Post Office to ship within the US but don`t want to fill out the form to send it to Canada, they say they don`t want to waste their time. Like HELLO, it takes 2-3 mins and they are already there a couple of times a week. That is what I would consider lazy. LOL
I have paid some sellers $20. to fill out that form plus the cost of the part and shipping, I wanted that part and was willing to pay to get it.

Thats BS, you don't know that sellers situation at all. Take me for example, My job has been working 10hrs a day, 6 days a week. When do you expect me to get to the post office? Maybe that seller was working a schedule like that as well.

Whats suppose to be done? Maybe I can miss some overtime to make that $10 off of you? I don't think so.

any time i have ordered off of the bay it has taken no less than a month to get my stuff. it's the nature of the beast. it isn't the canadian customs holding the packages it's the american side doing that.
funny, when i buy something off of ebay and it's from brazil or japan or italy, etc., it takes less than a week to my door.:hmm3grin2orange:

LOL, ya its a bit nuts, but what do ya do. Like you, I just want the stuff, don't care how long it takes. I actually had something take 3 months once, it was because customs took hold of it and did a BIG freakin inspection, like they were trying to catch me or the seller in a lie, I had to write a email letter to customs stating what it was and what was it for, and so did the seller, I guess they compared letters and all was good so they finally let go of it after 3 months. Man was I pissed off then, but WTF can you do to customs, NOTHING!!

Look, don't want to get into a argument with you about it. I said I was sorry if you thought I was calling you lazy. Let it go.

I work to as well, the post office is closed when I'm at home, I go on my lunch hour to ship stuff.

Yup, I've had stuff from Hong Kong in 2 weeks.

i've shipped to canada several times and never filled out any paperwork...
i guess the postmaster did at the post office for me?

i am about to ship a saw north of the boarder and was instructed on how to mark the papers by the recieving party. i'm gonna ask about the papers at the post office and fill them out as instructed... but i have never been given papers by the post office before.....

the whole shipping situation from US to CANADA and reverse seems screwed up!

Yea ,..I hear you there, Customs may hold an item up but I would not fault the sender. Many times I have recieved a parcel that has been opened by customs and then re-taped all up but they left the packing materials all out, lucky for me there was no real damage most times, once they opened and removed a piston from the cylinder, this was a new OEM set, they then just chucked the piston and cylinder back in the box and taped it up. When I got it the piston was beat to death, the Post Office would not refund any money, they claimed that the items were not properly packed. WTF.

Geeze, that sucks.

I find the wait times are very erratic. Also the cost to send to the US doesn't seem to be consistent at the different post offices around here. It seems to make a difference who is working at the time.

As far as shipping to the US, it takes about ten seconds extra. What is in the package and how much is it worth. Two questions.

I sent some parts to a member in france, and it took six weeks to get there.
I sent some more to the same member last week, and they got to france before a package got to ohio that I mailed at the same time. WTF?

The ohio package still isn't there.

I just made my first order from Baileys...we will see how that goes.

A Thought or two

First. If I send something to the good ol USA it's just like Jerry said 2-3 minutes for paper work.Along with everything I write in bold print what's inside on the box.I would never deal fraudulently, never try to smuggle anything but it's all about the wording also

Second,Cover your behind when it comes to you shipping something.Take a few pictures of the item, take a picture of the item when it's in the box covered up before you close it all up and then when it's addressed up another picture
