Not the smartest idea that ever came along, but there is no imminent danger with cutting that piece of wood off until the bar is near dropping out through the bottom, the end of the log is clear off the ground so there is no chance of it binding, the saw will pull itself into the cut if throttled up . I would not recommend doing this but with supervision there is no real danger.

+1. The tip is no where near anything that could cause a kickback, and the Dad is obviously supporting 100% of the weight of the saw.

Started cutting wood with a Chainsaw at the age of 7, but there was a couple of differences. I didn't have any supervision and I wasn't using a Stihl 660 Magnum.

Kickback isn't the only hazard when running a chansaw. What about crap getting in that kids eyes, no hearing protection, etc.
IMO, it's too risky for a 6 year old.

Is it a great idea no, but the earlier you learn things the better, as others said I see no imminent danger. I started driving at the age of 8, and boy did that help when I was 16.

there is a difference between teaching a kid how to use a chainsaw and letting him pull WOT on a 066.

I agree.. not too bright safety wise..

But.. at least the father did have both hands on saw at all times (it looked like at least).. But still off to side like he was not sure how much control he actually had of saw.

I picked up my Grandma for Christmas when I was 11 in a stick shift Plymouth Horizon, still won't let my boys use a chainsaw and they are 14,15 and 16. They think the cutting is the easy part and stacking wood in the Bobcat bucket is the hard part...
