Compressor purchase-Campbell Hausfeld

Okay this is not intended for anything other than to provide a picture of the compressor my wife bought for me.Can't find my wife,s camera at present so this will have to do.I did not pay the asking price, we were able to negotiate. If someone knows how to imbed the picture only I would appeciate it!

Very nice looking compressor, Lawrence. I thought it was a horizontal tank model with the same compressor head and motor drive setup. The vertical tank model may be harder to transport but it takes up less space in the shop,..good find.

Here it is.:yoyo:
It's got a bent wing!!

Well I finally was fortunate enough to receive money from my wife to purchase an air compressor. It's a used one but seems to me anyway, to be in perfect shape.Apparently hardly any hours on it.
So it's a
Campbell Hausfeld 26 gallon oil bath Serious Duty model not Extreme duty though
!25 max psi I think maybe it's 130
Belt driven by an Emerson motor that can be wired for 220
Presently it's wired for regular wall plug
6.5 cfm @ 40 psi.
5.7 cfm @90 psi.
I haven't used it yet but I have listened to it run up to max pressure and it took about 5min. plus or minus.
Seemed to hold the pressure as well.
Now I need some help and ideas.Do some guy's replace the copper tubing from the pump to the tank with a finned type pipe for better heat dissipation?Thought I saw that somewhere.
The oil in the bottom of the cylinder pump seems to be very clean.
Should I replace it anyway just in case?
When I first listened to it run we drained the tank and along with the air escaping there was some rusty water coming out of the tank drain.A good friend told me that was normal.I'm wondering though if I should run the compressor up to max pressure a few times and drain the tank to get rid of any excess rust in there.
also anything else I could do or should do? I'm all ears
Thanks Fellas

single phase electrical motors are about 55% efficient they make more noise and vibrate more this is because they have only one phase to run on. The motor gets one thump to spin at 0 degrees and by using a different gauge of wire and adding a capacitor the motor gets a second thump but of reduced torque to spin 60 degrees of rotation later and waits until it turns another 120 degrees ( motor has turned a total of 180 degrees ) to get another full thump of torque and gets another second smaller thump another 60 degrees later (240 degrees of rotation).

Three Phase motors are between 90% and 95% efficient, The get three full thumps of torque every 120 degrees of rotation. this makes the motors quieter and smother and more efficient. more efficient = smaller electricity bill.

My opinion is backed up by 14 years of night school and 26 years in the trade.

now all you need to find out is the price of getting three phase connected your house and the outlet in your work shop.

breakers and wire are cheap, labor is the cost. You need to talk to your local electrical contractor. is your switchboard / meter box big enough.

Air compressors and the tool as a combination when compared to an mains wired electrical tool are only about 5% efficient.

An air compressor running an air drill uses 20 times the electricity as a electrical drill plugged into a wall socket.

All this said I own a single phase compressor
I pump up tires, spray paint, etc but most importantly I use compressed air to clean my chainsaw.

I have an incentive to get that Toyota pickup back on the road again.
Geez I sounded a bit like Wille Nelson there.

I will and try and digest that information you have given me,but it could take awile,I only have a grade eight education.
Thanks for the info

Your a great guy Bob but I sure don't remember that deal!
I'll still have that thing when they cremate me.Maybe I,ll be cremated in it.Thing I want to try and see is if Toyaota will still honour a couple of recalls they had concening the head gaskets and a steering issue

Someone was saying they were pretty good about the head gaskets.
Beside I have my $600 97 CR-V to work on.

More air compresor questions

Okay are you boy's ready to give me a full tutorial on an air compressor.LOL! I will put them down in point form so as not to confuse anyone including myself.

#1.I have heard the Goodyear rubber hose made in the USA is good air hose. How should I buy the stuff 25'.50' or 100 foot lengths,it would seem to me to buy a 50 footer and you could add more later.
#2 Just picked up Sae30W non detergent oil for the cylinder
#3 should I empty the tank after each use and always from the bottom drain?
#4 should you add a filter/dryer right as the air leaves the regulator and then would you put on a tool oiler or do you just add oil to you tools Anyway
Help would be appreciated.Remember my compressor is no big kick as unit

Show me your air compressos

Share your compressor pictures with us all, explain which way you rout your airlines when staionary and when you use it portable such as in line filters all the other goodies.I want to learn stuff right.
Thank Heeps

The rubber hose seems best, but collects dirt, the cheap crap holds its memory, worse when cold and gets frustrating. I have a hose reel mounted on the ceiling above the unit, works well. I have curly hose, hate em but use them on my portable tank, beats draggin the compressor around!!
I have two outlets set up on mine, one for regulated air and one for the full pressure, sometime I get tight nuts and the gun needs all it can get. Honda crank bolts!!!!!! Use at least 3/8 hose, tools like volume. Best gun for the buck IR231 ingersol rand.
I also have my underground sprinklers main plumbed to near my shop, plug the air hose in and sprinklers are blown out for the winter, you may not have those!!

Good Information Bob!

Thank you kindly sir i will take to to heart.Just wonedring what lenghts to but air hoes in,first I thought 110 feet but man that's a lot of hose to be packing around. What about 2- 50 footers or maybe a couple 25 footers?

Long is a pain in the butt. Most of the time, I'm just using a little one in the shop, like 15', I also have a 50' that I rarely use.

Because my compressor is immobile I have the hose reel with a 50 use it lots, and have a bunch of odd size ones incase I have to chase the neighbors cat all the way to the back yard!!!:D
And yup long ones are a real pain,,, they are pre programmed to mess up!!! At the most inappropriate time!!!
One day I do want to plum a hose to a swing above my bench.
But just short of time!!!

Ya, I got this nice short quite old air hose, and its super flexible, and it never screws up or gets tangled, the stiffer they are the harder they are to use. I have no idea what this hose is I have, but its soooo nice and flexy, the 50' I have is an absolute pain in the ass its so stiff, and doesn't like to coil up properly.

I have a blue on from Pricess Auto, went to my cabin below freezing,
the hose has a new place at the recycle depot!!!
I should have taken a saw to it!!! LOL
It tested my fuse!!! And vocabulary!!!

As far as I'm aware, BC Hydro does not provide residential three-phase power service?

Nice compressor! I'm trying to find the pics I put up of the one I built, but I can't, and the new search is garbage, I can't get it to show me just single posts instead of the threads.
