Can anybody help me ID this saw? The handle mount where the name is has been replaced with a solid steel handmade piece and I don't know where to look for a tag or plate on it.

I'm not a big J-red guy and there aren't many around my neck of the woods. Anyone need parts from this one?

The handlebar mount makes my think of the 62, the predecessor of the 621 - but it likely is an 80 that has been repaired that way.....

With 220 lbs of compression it makes you wonder if that saw was stock. I do not believe I have ever seen a stock saw especially that old with that much compression.

It is stock....Im sure..220 in not at all uncommon for an 80 Jonsereds..the one in my sig runs at 238 +- 2-3 lbs depending on temp. The old Pro Series, two ring domed pistons were designed to run on leaded hi octane gas and could run these figures without worrying about detonation...they also came with rather large dia starter pulleys to aid in starting...That said...you need to be committed and focused when starting them... when they kick back they can pull the pull handle right through your fingers or pull your fingers back into the starter housing with great gusto!!!

And if you manage to hang on, make sure your back is in good shape. Ouch! Mine still smarts...
 
Hello my fellow saw junkies!!! The ninny turned out to be a 2163 turbo. Thanks too highguy's post I found in the seach's the throttle took me 5 minutes to fix. I gassed it up and that thing was ready to cut. I am very impressed!!! The only thing now is the oil cap needs replaced and the gas tank leaks out of the top. U know where u put your foot to start it. Other than that I gave him 60 buicks for the saw. :). Thank you guys for the info!!! Stay safe.
 
Jonsered 590 or 2051



Okay guys I have a opportunity to get either a Jonsered 590 or a 2051. Both as far as I can tell are lightly used and within $15.00. I have heard that 2051 is a real nice running saw. Also is the 590 almost the same as a Partner 5000? Not going to tell were they are at. so which one to get..

I can't speak for the 2051, but the 590 is something of a holy grail for Jred nuts and is widely considered to be a great saw. The downside is finding parts, esp. the top end.

As for not telling, if it's a CL ad, there are folks here who'll find the ad quicker than it took me to type this response.
 
The 2051 is an OK, but ho-hum saw. Now the 590 is a serious hot rod like Chris said - go grab it.:msp_smile:

P.P. Crank Shop?

So, I am finally the owner of a Jonsereds 80. Or at least I own some parts to an 80.:( Anyways, while tearing it down to determine the good from the bad I noticed 2 "P"s stamped on each counterweight of the crankshaft. They appear to be struck by hand. Then I remember about a custom shaft that Chainsawr had listed as a P.P Crank Shop piece. Google turned up nothing. Does anyone have any info on this? There doesn't look to be anything special about these cranks. I know Jonsereds used the letter "P" as a designation for the 80. Did they mark the cranks as well?

P.S, If anyone has a 80 project laying around, please let me know. I will have one someday.

Chainsawr has a lot of parts for those old saws. You might get some of what you need there. They've always been good to deal with from my experience.
 
The Crank Shop is a engine buider here in Vermont. They are well known for their Rotax engines for Ski-Doo's. They have been around for years so it's possible they did saws back in the day. It might be a place to start................
 
I've been buying stuff from Scott for yrs-both for Husky & Jonsereds. Most of the time the parts are exactly as described, but a few times I've been burnt. Just recently I thought I was getting a used, OE Husky 2100 gas/oil tank, but it had some JB Weld going on. I like to know about modified or repaired parts before I buy them. I might have passed on this tank if I had known. He was willing to take it back though.....which makes him a good egg. Most of the parts he sells for these antique saws are used and there's always the individual interpretation on 'how' used.

What are you lacking on 80 parts, as I have some duplication?

hey guys check out this little johnny I found on CL for $100. the guy said it's a 111 not an 111s I think hes right as I have only seen 111s whitout the 3/4 wrap. what do you guys think? is it a 111 or a 111s? also it has 165psi comp and spark, just needs a hood, bar cover and oil cap. I love these big ol' saws and this is one of those that I have been searching for..

What size and thread pitch are the bar nuts on a Jonsereds 621? Lost a bar nut in the weeds today, and the IPL only gives a part number (504 03 38-00).....

Edit:

I see in a feebay listing that they're 10mm 1.25. Is this correct? Can't always believe whatcha see on feebay. The studs are 10mm, so this 'sounds' right...

My 621 and 910e have 10 x 1.5 studs with 15mm od nuts, though I don't care for 15mm as it's sort of an oddball size and has no inch equivalent (and I have no scrench for). I was switching them over to 'stihl type' nuts I made from a bar of 3/4" (19mm) hex 304 I conveniently just happened to have but it somehow looked funny on the 621 so instead I went to 16mm (5/8") flanged nuts as found all over A4 Audi suspensions.
As another alternative the stihl nuts are 8 x 1.25 and can be drilled out and tapped for 10 x 1.5.

If you'd like a stock 15mm nut I'd be happy to send you one...

As it looks to me, the 590 is very close to a late production P5000 Plus.

Haayyoo my fellow jonny junkies. I bout got that 2163 fixed up real nice. :) I have a few questions about some things.
The chain oil cap is a bit busted and it leaks me oil out ever so gently. Will lowes carry the gas and oil caps for this beings they sell the huskys. Is the 2163 the 362xp clone or what model from husky is the same in other words. And one last thing does this model have an unlimited coil?
