We have one guy in knox that sells Dolmar. I took a drive to see him. He had no saws in his shop (and I had never seen or held a Dolmar saw in person). I inquired about the Dolmar 7900 and he said I could pay for it- he would order it- and it would be there in 2-3 days. I walked out of the store disappointed. But that didnt keep me from acquiring a variant of the 7900- a Makita 6401 that I had Randy convert over for me. Point is.... where there is a will- there is a way. Since then, I've had the pleasure of meeting some great folks here on AS and I know who I can trust to steer me right and who to stay clear of. I know that both the Dolmar dealers mentioned in this thread are top shelf having seen them mentioned in numerous saw threads regarding various scenarios and I have never seen a single bad comment regarding either. That is good enough for me to buy from them. If I want a particular saw- not having a local dealer is not going to stop me from having it. Same scenario with Johnsered- I have 3 now and there is no dealer anywhere around.

Don't know but it is good to see a little bit of inovation in this small compay. That is a sign of survival will in my eyes.

What I find interesting is that Dolmar choose to go the 4 stroke road for a cut off saw instead of the direct injection road that Stihl is prefering. 4 stroke should have major advantages (proven system, less emissions because of the 4 stroke system, no oil gas mixing, less rpms because the cut off blade doesn't go so high in rpm's, easier maintanence like oil change, etc.). Of course it doesn't have the "bling" factor of direct injection.

Do you remember their 4-stroke 50cc chainsaw attempt from the early to mid 2000s? It disappeared from the news pretty fast......

so i started this thread to share some info on what i was told from dolmar...if you don't like dolmar don't post in this thread, simple as that. no bickering or banter about husky or stihl theres a best 50cc saw thread somewhere for that. i want to know more about this supposed 100cc+ dolmar saw or saws...if anyone can help that would be great.

+1. Id like to hear anything anyone has to tell us about the possibility of this saw.

The service a person would get from Steve (166) and co. is top notch. I've bought saws from him
and he's treated me very well.

Kyle and co. (Edge and Engine) are also excellent.

No doubt about that, but it seems they are the exceptions, not representing the rule.

Where a thread Starts, on Arboristsite, and Where it Ends Up, Are Two different things. I personally Highly Doubt that a new 100cc+ Dolmar will make market AnyWhere in 2013.

And by that I mean NEW, not just a 9010 with a cat.

Maybe we should require "Dolmar ownership" to participate in Dolmar Threads? I agree with what has been posted before in other threads- that we need "competition to steer us towards innovation" (even though it wasnt in those exact words- that was the best I could come up with to relate the idea). Even if your a Husky guy (which I will claim- although I love the Dolmar I have), you should still be excited about a Competitor coming out with something new- bc it very well may prompt a response/ improvement from your brand of choice. So are all the 9010s gone at this point? or is there still some laying around that need a new home?

Nikko has a Dolmar.

So do I.

Who's gonna check for serial #s?

I was making a joke in general- not calling anyone out. I know Niko has a 5100/05 in his sig. And that he prefers the 346 (so do I). It doesnt matter the "Make/ Model" of the thread- one thing is for certain... there will be more activity in that thread from the "haters than the supporters". We all enojoy the banter/ drama here.

People can bitc* and complain about dealers all they want... When it comes down to it, I can have my local dolmar dealer or 166, or E&E order and mail me parts in the same amount of time I spend waiting on the local stihl dealer to order parts in from a ware house. The only real loss you have is not having the saws at the dealers to lay your hands on... Even that has about zero value if you do research online and know the specs and read reviews on their balance and such. Besides Dolmar as a brand is following the "small business" model. Product sold = Product made. You'll notice dolmar doesn't clearance saws or have big sales b/c they fill the quota being sold. No reason to pay for overproduction and have to clearance product at a loss...

And yes I would like 166 to get back here and at least confirm there is a test pilot saw and maybe it's size. At least then we'd know... but I would assume like others that 166 isn't one to lie or tease if there wasn't something in the works. whether or no we see it until 2015 is another story... :msp_sneaky: But even if it isn't coming for 1-3 years... it gives us poorer shlubs time to save for a purdy new saw!

I knew you were joking, and was kidding back. Just left off the :).

I agree with everything that was said here. It is clear a lot of thought went in to it and it shows in the presentation of the info. Thanks for that.

I do own a Dolmar, and I agree that competition is a good thing - and not only towards innovation.

Of course the PS 500V model, it was a fully functional but hopelessly too heavy for a chainsaw. If it was so easy then Honda would have brought one onto the market a long time ago. But you have to admit that was innovation compared to Husqvarna or Stihl at the same time there was nothing not even close on the horizon from the other two.
But what is interesting about a cut off saw is that it doesn't need the high speed that a chainsaw needs. Then I could imagine that they use the same engine in the brushcutter. I donot know it but it would be highly probable. Technology transfer at it's best. As always we will only have final results when someone has a functional product in hand.
But as we all know they will not even have a research budget 1/10 the size as Stihl or Husqvarna. So waiting for fantastic highly innovative new products is just kidding oneself. But it is still no reason for putting them constantly down.
