When i bought my first Husky i was given a choice of gauge, .050 or .058, the dealer took the time to educate me and give me some personal opinions. He told me our area was .050 territory, he also mentioned specials always favored .050 chains, again in our area. Well several years into it he was right, not only for local availability but the stuff i find online also. I have found great deals on .050 bars and chains in areas from coast to coast. Now when i walk into a stihl shop there is plenty of .063 chain, but they also have the .050 in 3/8ths 72DL and 84DL. Never have seen a .058 chain packaged on a shelf. So at this stage of the game, one bar one chain, of unknown gauge, you can still investigate what is popular in your area, always keeping in mind that you can and will find almost anything online if your willing to pay shipping. I bet i have no less than 60 loops of chain .325 and 3/8ths combined. Probably 50 loops have came via a special somewhere, local or online. Just my take.
