Why are Stihl's so big and heavy?

You should've weighed them w/o the bars and chains. The stihl look like different set ups. The 028s is not a light saw. I think my old 036 weighs the same or less.

Hold on there Buckwheat,

We aren't about to start comparing apples to apples in this thread. I never let facts get in the way when I have already made up my mind.:msp_angry:

I was blown away by the difference in footprint size of my 039 vs my new 036. My coworker couldn't believe that my old azz saw weighed les than his 460 rancher and mine has mag cases to boot.

Will post up picks of the 039 next to the 036 later. Need to get weight of 039 on Monday at work but I suspect it is heavier.

I made this thread to stir the pot a little. In reality I find weights of PHO only are quite misleading. When you put an appropriate bar/ chain on, the results vary. Good larger pro saws really go up in weight once they are full of fluids. When you throw in nearly a quart of fuel and a pint of bar oil.:msp_wink:

Bar and chain isn't going to change the weight difference if they are the same. Good point about fluids. My 036 has 50% larger fuel tank and roughly same oil volume as the rancher. Both saws had fluids in them but not sure if they were topped off. I am going to do a more accurate assessment of the three saws (039 included) with and w/o fluids with fuel and oil capacity info. Stirring the pot is fun because it keeps people on their toes and thinking/learning/evolving.

Plastic Huskys are heavy. Best to compare to 357xp, 359 or 562xp, all mag cases, around 60cc and lighter than most. ;)

stihls are just no good boat anchors :potstir:
