The search is down again, and I have a *very* specific oil question:

What fuel oil smells the best / has the least odor? I saw someone in a post recently say that the Bailey's Woodland pro synthetic had less odor than stihl synthetic, which is what I use now.

Before I jump into a 6pack of woodland pro synth, I figure it's a good idea to check in with the chainsaw experts here on the forum since you guys know more about chainsaws than I ever will.

Any info you can give on which fuel oil is the least odorous is much appreciated.

Thanks,

p.s. I know this might seem like a strange question, but I am working on having the lowest amount of petrol-stench after using my saws as possible because my body is sensitive to petroleum products. I already use canola oil for bar oil thanks to informative threads on here, so I'm over half-way there. I simply want to go all the way with this and use the fuel oil with the least amount of smell.

Well the Stihl oil gives me a headache and belray messes with my sinuses. Klotz smells good to me and doesn't bother me any. The maxima castor 927 is a blend and smells somewhat like klotz. Maxima k2 doesn't have much smell either.

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

We need to get Gary in here. Quick.
Noooo, don't tell Gary that this thread exists. I don't want to get banned. :taped:

I even tried searching AS via google, but couldn't find anything.

I get a rash if i dont smell 2 stroke at least once a week!!
I agree though that the woodland pro isnt too bad though.

Sent from me to you using my fingers

I forgot about motul. Their oil didn't have much smell at all. It was one of the best oils I've ran.

I am currently running Bel Ray, which smells like I imagine nuclear waste smells. My favorite oil (cause I really can't tell a performance difference) is the "low smoke" husky synthetic. Very non-obnoxious to stump with

I've found that Motul 800 2T has low odor. That coupled with some engineered fuel makes for a pleasant exhaust.

What is engineered fuel? Stuff you make at home?

I would probably run sucky oil if it had no smell. Ok, maybe not... but you know what I mean.

If you had to compare the smell of Motul 800 to Castor 927, which one has less odor?

Thanks!

Lol, thanks for that. I will be sure to avoid Bel Ray, and I will ad the husky synthetic to my list of possible oils.

I never noticed a smell with stihl ultra. Usually the klotz race gas scent over rides everything.
Some people are just nose-deaf. :)

Me on the other hand, my sense of smell is way too sharp for my own good.

I can literally smell things that other people can't. A couple of GM vehicles my grandparents owned in the 80s had a really nasty smell that I could not tolerate at all, and nobody else could smell it. I couldn't understand how they didn't even smell it at all.

Motul has less smell than the 927.
Thanks :)

No problem. I've changed oils a couple times now because of smell and bothering my sinuses.

What oil did you end up going with?

In this video opinion in the comments seems pretty evenly divided between Motul 800 and Castor 927. I may just get some of each and see which one I tolerate better.
