What oil did you end up going with?

In this video opinion in the comments seems pretty evenly divided between Motul 800 and Castor 927. I may just get some of each and see which one I tolerate better.

I'm running maxima k2 right now. I tried a quart of the 927 and then I'm about half way into a quart of the k2. I have a quart of klotz left I'll probably use after this quart is gone. If I could get motul easier I would run it all the time.

That's funny! That video was taken a few miles from me and the guy in the video used to be our township supervisor. By the way Stihl ultra doesn't bother me but it leaves a distinct smell on my clothes.

Thanks. Motul is looking like the winner in the contest for the least smelly oil. It also has a slight price edge over 927 when buying in bulk.

Yea, that smell is what I am trying to reduce as much as possible. It gives me a headache when it is coming out as exhaust, and smelling it on my clothes later is also annoying due to my hyper-sensitive nose.

Klotz smells the best of all the ones I've been around.

Put a little Cherry oil scent in your mix?

I have never seen a 100% husky synthetic mix oil, only a semi synthetic blend. If a 100% synthetic please show a pic or something.

U'r absolutely right, it is a synthetic blend. As I said, it may well destroy your 435 in one tank, but it is pleasant to run:msp_biggrin:

Lol, that's kind of like putting on cologne to mask body odor after working all day.

I'll look into Klotz -- but didn't someone say in this thread that it had a strong smell?

I'll keep the Husky blend in mind, but since a full synthetic means no petrol, that might fit the bill better for me.

I like the smell of Klotz in my sled....On the stump I've been very happy with Amsoil Dominator @50:1. Doesn't bother the eyes or lungs, and the saw guts look good on 6-7 gallons a week for the past year or so.

Least bothersome I've come across. -Sam

I am running the bel ray as I love my masterminded 394 more than my nose or health. I have a six pack so Stihl ultra that I shelved due to the husky oil not smelling or smoking. I'm different from most here as I really am not sure one brand name oil will make my saw perform better or last longer. When I finish off the hr1 (maybe?) I'll prolly go back to the Husky oil. Stumping big stuff in 100 degree weather, no breeze, and bel ray is pretty stinky

No doubt belray is clean burning and good oil. When I was noodling some blocks with no wind and burning a tank in no time in the 395 it started bothering me. The maxima didn't using it the same. Klotz smells strong but doesn't bother me.

I was finding the maxima cheaper than motul.
I'm shopping online at the zon, since nobody in my area cares either one. 1 liter is basically the same price, but 4L of Motul 800 is $60 (137oz) vs 64oz of 927 at $34. I'm going to start with 1L for now, and see how it does.

mindfork IMO with your smeller. Stay away from Klotz.

Made me sick one time cutting in the 90's with a 066 held head high. Got sick as a dog from the fumes.
Roger that! I still have Motul 800 & Castor 927 as my top two contenders.

Looks to me like motul 800 2t comes in 'road' or 'off road' versions. Anybody know the difference?

If you're sensitive to smell you don't want any oil with castor in it, aka 927 or Klotz Super TechniPlate. I too am somewhat sensitive to exhaust smell. I've ran all of the oils in question, they all have a unique odor, some have a bit less than others. Stihl Ultra does have a nasty smell IMHO. So far the oil's with the best/least smell I have found is, Maxima K2, Motul 800, Motul 710 has less odor than 800, but it's very thin oil which scares me. Silkolene Pro 2 SX smells fine as well. I buy my oil here Dirt Bike Motocross 2-Stroke Oil Oils/Chemicals Accessories - Motorcycle Superstore They ship fast, and are great to deal with.

From what I have read, the off road version is slightly less viscous, with a slightly lower flash point. IMHO the off road version is probably better for use in saws and other ope. The road racing may not burn as clean in ope, do to the higher flash point and viscosity.

Thank you for the excellent detail. So would you rate Maxima K2 as having the least odor?
