What are your thoughts on the Husqvarna 365?

sweet saw all the way around. pro grade construction, good power to weight, good handling, dead nutz reliable and can be upgraded to 372.

What would you value one at that looks to be in good shape, but does not run. It is not locked up. I am not sure on compression of anything else yet?

depends what 365 it is. the original 365 IMO isn't worth much at all especially not running. lots a variables when it comes to putting a value on something. if a seller don't let me inspect the top end i automatically assume it's pooched. non running prices with top end inspected as good - original 365 = $75 365sp = $200 365xt = $350. these are estimated prices, condition would determine the real value but these are max i'd pay if looking for a saw. if i'm not looking for a saw i cheap right out and won't pay much for either of them. if i'm patient these saws come to me for free.
 
I think it is a regular 365. I will have to inspect the top end. Do all Husqvarna saws use the same size allen head on the muffler bolts?

Obviously from those values there are huge differences between the three versions. Can you explain the differences?
 
the original 365 had a bolt on intake boot rather then a clamp on which was susceptible to tearing at the flange. alot of people would notice but the average guy would not and toast his top end. i've only seen 2 in all the years that have actually had a tear though so it is pretty rare i'd say. they are also fed by the old school zama carb which works ok. to this day i don't think i have worked on an original 365 that i didn't have to adjust the metering lever higher because the needle jets were starving for fuel. once the metering lever is adjusted right those carbs are actually capable of feeding a 372 although not the best setup for sure. metering lever is tricky to set though as there is a fine line between just right and lever being to high allowing the needle to stay open and way overfeed. the original 365 also has an open port top end which i find doesn't hold rpm's as well in the cut with longer bars. i do have an original 365 here right now that a muff modded for a buddy. it has a 16" on it and the thing is an absolute screamer. the special has the closed quad port top end, clamped on intake boot, and walbro carb. i have not worked on many x torqs as they are not old enough yet to be showing up dead at my door. i ground the transfer deviders out of one for a buddy to make it a 372 and it woke it up some but not as much as i expected.
 
If ur not planning on upgrading it to the 372xp I would rather run a 357xp, I bit lighter and more nimble and will do anything the 365 will. Just my thoughts.
 
Well, I have a 359 that I am porting and putting back together.

I really don't have much use for two saws, but came across a deal. I am going to check it out in about an hour.

a 357 is a good saw but won't do everything a 365 will. i've ran 28" bars on a 365 and they still do fine.
 
I have some 365SP's as well as 372XP's I generally use them together. Takes a stop watch to tell the difference.
 
One of Husqvarna's most underrated saws, no doubt about it. Long production run, tons of used parts and AM parts out there. I personally would never spend much money to bolt on a 372 cylinder. One of the best running sub 75cc saws I ever ran, was a 365 (ported) with the 65cc jug. Heck, it STOMPED a 385 in the same wood (+20").

I wouldn't mind having a ported 365 with a full wrap. Maybe some oversized dawgs and a 28 inch bar. That would make a nice light weight felling saw. Especially on these tiny Alabama pine trees.

I pulled the muffler off and the exhaust side of the piston and ring look great! The muffler screen is not plugged, the air filter is not bad either.

My compression tester adapter is too long and it is hitting the top of the piston once it is screwed in tight enough to seal, so I cannot pull it over. It doesn't matter anyway because the pressure relief valve on my compression tester is up at the gauge and not at the plug side of the hose. From what I have read, that is the wrong type. Compression feels good though. The spark plug looks old and pretty oil fouled. It looked like there was a decent amount of carbon buildup on top of the piston. I will have to tear it down to inspect things a little better. I dumped all the fuel and bar oil out and will start fresh once I get it figured out.

I will tinker with it once I get my 359 back together.

Any 365 gurus out there please feel free to post anything that I need to keep a look out for.
 
you are reading it right. yer biggest thing on that saw is the tune. if it's lasted this long it's probably tuned pretty good but as i said before. i have not worked on an original 365 that i didn't have to tweak the metering lever in the (zama) carb. the one i have here was lean and didn't matter whether i had it tuned at 3/4's on the high or 2 on the high. didn't run any different cause the high speed was starving for fuel. i had to raise the lever quite a bit to make it run right and now it's tuned at 1 turn on the high. lever could have came up a little higher even. i really prefer to swap a walbro on them if i have one available.

nope. your looking for an HD12 or HD6. both way better carbs then the zama. the HD6 is the best IMO.
