You push it to activate it. It pushes the plunger down and releases air as the saw is cranked. When it fires...the explosion in the cylinder closes the valve. It is probably rusted which means the ball bearing cage that retains the plunger(rod) are rusted as well and subject to failure. If it fails...the parts may fall on top of the piston. Dont ask me why I know that.

after cleaning...

Oh, and the saw RUNS!!!
That saw looks pretty darn good to me!

Did you check the serial number to make sure it's not stolen?o_O

Why does everyone think all cl saws are stolen unless they are priced ridiculously high?

I was looking at some other pictures on google and the little black button just under the handle/bar wasn't on the 044. Just the 046 and 066... decompression valve?

For future reference, some 044s do have a decompression valve. Congratulations on the new saw. Props to Jacob for nailing the model with confidence before the paint was removed.

The guy bought a cool saw at a good price. Let it go.
I was done. If you want to make a big deal out of it, that's your problem.o_O

I am happy that he got a good deal.:)

You can reply if you want, but I've added you to my "IGNORE" list. I will no longer be able to see your posts, so if you reply it might as well be something pertaining to the thread and not directed towards me.

That cleaned up nice. That was just a good deal before. With it cleaned up like that, it's a You Suck deal. Way to go!

I didn't say I think it's stolen, but I do think it is suspicious that someone would sell a running 066 for $100.o_O
I bought about the same saw, an 066 but in a little better shape, not much but it did have the brake handle, run, and had just a little score on the piston for $65 and never thought it was stolen. New rings and a little scotchbrite on the piston and it was a very good runner.

You can usually tell just by talking with someone if they're on the level. I was kinda half joking, anyways. Some people just take some of this stuff a little too seriously and just rub me the wrong way.

I get some good deals too. My cousin works at the landfill and brought me a running 272xp Husky that someone threw out. I haven't checked it out real good, but who cares? It was free!o_O

So with 110 PSI how much life is left in this thing? My 038Mag II has 120PSI. My 026 has 149PSI, and my 192t has 134PSI

It has a 404 sprocket/chain/bar on it, and I'd like to change to 3/8th. How many teeth should I run 7 tooth, 8 tooth? My 038 Mag has 7. Behind that is a "round spiny thing" that I'm pretty sure is the clutch wheel/drum... That thing has a lot of play in it. Wobble and such... Is it supposed to be loose/play? My 038 has a different set up on it, and so It's hard to tell for comparison.

Cuts fine. Even with the dull chain that was sharpened unevenly.

I think the saw is still worth $100... But in my hands, that $100 an hour.

I don't think I need both an 038MagII & 066... Is the 066 is more powerful and weights the same? I got the 038Mag II just 2 or 3 weeks ago for $250... It just needed new gas, the carbs cleaned, and adjusted.. Runs Great!
