Bars that are called 18" are availiable from Stihl and others in both .325 and 3/8" picco - but they really are just over 16".

True 18"(+) bars are availiable from at least Cannon (Supermini C1 mount).
I have the true 16" cannon supermini in c1 picco mount and the 3005 stihl 18". The cannon is almost as long

Wow I am really torn now fellers. Not to mention it seems far easier to find a bar chain combo for a 550xp if spike emails me one of his amazing prices i might just end up owning one.

I tried to like the 241. While it's a great little saw, it simply doesn't make near the power of a good 50cc saw and is nearly as heavy. It just doesn't make sense IMHO.

Yes, you need a modded 201T first. $700 to your door. I'm only making $45-$50, and you get a great running saw.
What do you consider a good 50cc is it a creamscile or big orange.

550xp is better bang for the buck... But MS241 is noticeably smaller/ lighter. I don't know what paper specs say, but I was impressed with the size difference in favor of the 241. Swinging either is no problem, i have both of them, just wanted you to know the 241 is smaller/lighter than any other 50cc saw I've used or owned.

I've never run a 241 so i can't make a direct comparison, i just can't imagine a 241 being $200 better.

The 421 has a mag case, its built like a tank, easy to operate, and easy to work on. Its a little heavier than a 241 ( we're talking ounces here) mine has been bulletproof. It was $329 shipped to my door with a free case.

It does have a CAT that needs to be taken out and they really wake up and cut bigger than 42cc.

Im sure the 241 is also a great saw i just don't see what advantage it has being $200 more with basically all the same specs.

Have you held a 241 at least? I know we have talked about the 421 before, they are a real good buy and made well. But shoot, they feel like the same size/ weight as a 5105, that was my gripe on them. Maybe the 241 is a few ounces lighter on paper, but it feels like pounds between it and the 421 to me.
I cant say that it is 200 bucks better or not, but heck its 200 bucks. If a guy is stretched and cant afford the extra bit, I dont blame him. But if you can, and plan on owning the saw for years and getting the work out of it, its pennies on the hour.

Back to confused, like I said earlier I have a 260 it has had issue think they are gone but it is a real pain to start when cold once warm It's fine. I was looking for a small saw for blocking and in tree use but am a huge fan of getting the best bang for the buck.

I made a post earlier that compared my idea of good bar lengths for 241/550/562. What I probably could have said is I consider them in 3 different classes and that there is just as big a gap between them.

I know it doesn't add up on dry pho weights, and plenty don't agree.

I really like your comparison and that is one of the ones that sleighed me to the 550xp was the fact that it is not a huge upgrade from my 192. I really just wish some one had one of the new bars and could post up how they worked that prob would push me over the fence. I feel like if the 241 would run the 18" with no prob that would be my saw of choice. I am a big fan of light as I am heavy already and don't need anymore weight up there with me when I am trying to spider monkey and I am the size of a gorilla. I ain't lying either I weigh in at 250lbs plus a few more when you add a saddle saw and the like. Makes for some real wobble on the top of spindly little tree. Not mention I feel like a 241 would be a dream to use in the bucket. Then the comparison the 550xp is bigger horse and cheaper to boot or so I am told. I think I may have the solution buy them both and the looser hits the trading post.

One of the reasons I made a point of talking in dl rather than quoted lengths is the fact that the 18" stihl is 61dl in 3/8lp. A 16" on the husky is 60dl in 3/8.
A 241 pulls a 67dl 325 well enough, and that's the same length, it'll go even better with 3/8lp.
If that's all the bar you need, that's about the pick of the saws available.
A 346 with a nk 325 66dl bar is probably the next pick, but you lose the ability to easily run a 3/8 7 pin lp sprocket. They don't come up often - but there is one in the tp at the moment.
The 550 really shines when you ask a bit more.

I'm only talking broken in, simple home mods. Pro ported saws are in a different league.
