Here we go today's complaint.

Few weeks back I muffler mod and tune a saw for a friend. Last night he shows up with seized crank bearings. Says he had some 2 stroke in a bottle didn't know how much but added it to a gallon of fuel from the garage. From the color and feel of the fuel I'm guessing a 100:1 mix ratio.

Like somebody said, 100 is greater than 50 so 100:1 has to be better. Right?

I used to ride observed trials motorcycle competition in the mid 90s and the pros ran 100:1 in their bikes. Of course these were water cooled and not high hp, but still, that's not much oil.

Yeah those old trials bikes were loping Sons of Guns weren't they kind of like an old Johnny popper tractor you can hear it fire every time

Was given two saws today, looked to be very light use saws. Owner says they won`t start or run, take em home with you for parts. After getting home they were both running in under 15 mins. Some people shouldn`t own gasoline powered equipment.
I used to work on motorcycles for a living. Countless times people would bring in a bike saying it won't start. I go out there and FIRST KICK it's running...

Actually some people should, ones that dont know how to use them, so guys like us get them for free. ;)

I get a lot of free saws, average a dozen or more a year and most require very little to get them running, the last 026 given to me only needed the spark screen removed from the muffler. The Tech that looked it over missed that and declared the saw worn out.

One of my favorites is when a coworker walks up and says "i can't get this thing started" i say "is the switch on"......YEAH ITS ON... I take it and flip the switch on then start it.

I did that one just today or I would have ended up with 3 saws. The up/down switch positions baffle some people at times. The owner swore that the switch in the down direction was the run position, it wasn`t....LOL

There's a couple guys by my grandmas that fix saws and other tools they pull from clean up piles and freebies given to them. I Almost stopped and bought an echo cs310. I've got a good lead on a low use echo 510 evl thats been sitting at least 10 years because its been in our maintenance shop on a shelf that long. Our mechanic said it needs a good home.

Yeah some of what those techs miss is quite embarrassing. An independent in my town seems to get an awful lot of 'scrap' equipment. Hindsight after working on some stuff after he's been in it first, the verdict isn't very positive. Less about the stuff not being repairable, and more about what he wants to fix-at the customers cost.

I got a mint SEZ that was scrapped because the bar was bad. Feel bad for the previous owner who was probably swindled into a new saw.

Yes. I mean the bar was really bad, like almost worn through the sides. Buddy knows their mechanic and bought it from them and traded some stuff to me.

I've got that Echo 400 here with the broke piston but the bar is in great shape. So if I leave the bar mounted on the PH then the piston will regenerate to new?
