I don't think the parts have ever changed part # or them being significantly different looking than they once were but different things started happening over the last ten yrs and less in some cases.
The original problems with the switch and still remains to be is the connectors coming off. After a while they would just stop working and if you finally got sick of the connectors coming off and fixed them good then you couldn't unplug it to see if that was the reason they had no spark.
You end up pulling it off the wire on the hill. Now the last 8-9 yrs ago the switches started to separate in two pieces. I believe the last one out of the new saw came apart in the first hour. The saw stops so I snap it back together then it starts happening every fifting minutes then I pull it off. Then the end vibs off. I think one out of three has a functional switch.
That's because I replaced it and its a new non ported new saw and I can't rob it because the wires need fixing again:crazy2:If the switch works then I won't bother putting a spare choke on as they snap in half like a twig.vI just clean the filter and prime it in the morning then I won't need the choke. Trigger locks use to be rare to break but now I'm lucky to get a month out of one. The vent elbow came out of the tank on one and the other plugged so I pulled it out to clear it. From about 2009 to 2014 I ran ported ground up rebuilds and never had issues with running older chokes other than them poping off. Same with trigger locks. Those two things seem to be in the last 3-4 yrs.
The oilerscseem to be giving me trouble now too.Its sad to see It with fisher price parts. The saw was design in the late 80' but they still had the 266 268 and had the 272 for their next release. I remember the 266 going down in quality in the end when they moved assembly to the USA
Damn that's a lot to be dealing with in the timber, suprised they don't get tossed down the hill lol.....

I don't think a 372 is a terrible saw its just that I have terrible luck with them.

372 is a fine saw. I will have to say they just aint the dolly/makita or a 461. I cut timber and run a mill on a daily basis i have owned and run just about every pro saw in this class and hands down from an operators perspective the dolmar takes the cake. They have enough power to hang with a 90cc the body is slim and light. the hd air filter option it works as it should you dont have to do an oiler upgrade and they come with big dogs out of the box. Whats not to like ? I have a 2166 retroed and a 461 and previously owned a 576. The 7910 is my go too saw in this size. The only problem with the dolly is if you store it with fuel for a day or two you might as well pull the plug and clear the cyl of gas before you fire it up.

so I still don't see the point of a 70cc saw.
For game! Its like downing a grizzly with a cross bow or climbing Everest without oxygen.
A 372 is not a bad little saw but it HAS TO BE ported and ported correctly for coast falling anyways. Its a saw that sits on the pivot and its a multi activity saw that reliys on porting(response, speed and just enough power) its a combination of the build, operator and balanced filing to accomadate super sized falling dogs, different species and cutting angles. Your saws seem very nice but your filling would clutch out a ported 390 in a some species starting a Humboldt or Swanson with the west coast dogs. You can't chomp through the wood. If it was all Western Red Cedar then you would be good.

How many hours you think you have on the top ends now?

I put them on at the beginning ofAugust.
My days are down a bit last winter. About 800 combine probably about 600 ob one. one has a timed out bottom at about 1300 and I need to transfer over to a new saw I bought.
They are strong. I have some serious advanced tunning going on. I milk every bit out of those jugs. I cut with Shane last year in centeral coast. He was across a huge creek draw. I end up running the peaky one you built that day. So I told him where I was cutting and he said "someone is running a real hot 390 over there". I said..."are sure its a 390? " oh yeah its a 390. That's funny because a didn't here a real hot 390.

Have you put a lot of hours on these dolmars...I am just curious...I like the looks of them, but ain't no one running them around my area....I want to get one someday for sure!!!

I know of one crew in northern Maine (interestingly a cable logging outfit) that has run them exclusively since they came back to the US market. I have lost touch with them, but I understand they found them reliable. According to my HD rental buddy the only thing that goes bad on the rental 6421s are the chain tensioner and top ends due to operator error. Some issues with the oil pumps from grit getting dropped into the oil tank.

The only issues I've had is I might grab a 661/390/395 first the big stuff I grab a 70/80 for most of what I cut the dolly if you don't cut with it tevery day you have to drain the fuel. I love my 461 but the dolly will out cut and out handle the stihl and the husky .

Ive never had any problems with one sitting.
What's it do flood?

Yip the tank is vented to the carb. In my area we see a bunch of 6401/6421's from the "local box store" that get pawned because there" hard to start" the dolly only requires choke in cold weather and floods if stored in warm weather with fuel in it. Other than that it is an absolute animal ported. It will hang with the 390 and is a dream to operate. My makita has the 54mm big bore and the 7910 is all oem.

Really ? Both mine flood themselves after a weekend in the "saw shed " if full of fuel
During the summer

I'm a fan of the 461 but the HO oiler adds even more cost to the 461. Can he get parts locally for the dolmar? That's what I would also consider. The dolmar I ran was a smooth running saw

Not if you buy them with the HO oiler, like the Dolmars.
