Lol, we are talking here.

So the MS241 runs cuts better with the 3/8 lo/pro "WHY"?

Because of the 6 tooth sprocket?

Because it is too gutless to pull the .325?

If they made a 6 tooth .325 sprocket, they would cut equally well?

Why is that? Is it because of the 6 tooth sprocket?
I don't know I'm not a saw tech. Just first hand experience running a 241 and 250 with pico chain beside my 250 with .325. They just walk away from the saw running .325. All chains filed by Steve who has more years filing then iv been alive.

thanks James but i'm not that old.:surprised3:

I was only doing it as a experiment. I know the 3/8 L.P. will cut faster with less power. It just makes no sense how people say the 241 won't run an 18" bar,but a 251 will run a 18" .325. Some things make no sense. I thinking because Still reccomends 12 to 16 for the 241 everyone thinks that's all it can do. They don't want to say it can turn an 18 because they don't want it stepping on the toes of the 261.

It likely has to do with how well the public and the brand expects the different saw models to perform + marketing and what the brand expect the "typical buyers" of each model to want/use the saws for. The saw surely will do it, so no harm in testing.
Btw, with the bar mount in question an 18" (called) Stihl brand (and most aftermarket ones) bar barely measures over 16" on the saw - the Stihl 3005 mount bars are shorter than 18" bars usually are in .325.

So straight up, the .325 and 3/8 lo/pro cuts about the same, but it cuts faster when you switch to a 6 tooth sprocket?

That depends on the saw and some (many) other factors, there are no simple rules.

Also you said it cuts great with a .325 nk{narro kerf?}, so if he goes to a narrow kerf chain, he is OK too?

Lotsa different variables here....

Yes - and it never hurts to test the different options, can be fun as well! :)

How about oilers? Will the oiler on the 241 keep up with the extra couple inches? I tend to agree with Sawtroll that Stihl makes recommendations based on expected performance by "typical buyers". I wonder if the oiler is factored in as well when a manufacturer suggests bar lengths.
Harley I just read this post from start to finish and thought you might like to know you have added absolutely nothing to the thread. Can you not find something better to do but bash Brad and others?
Have a nice day everyone.
