I found a 1-bbl manual choke carb and retrofitted that on to my truck. 1 vacuum line to the distributor. Single wire HEI distributor with coil inside, I keep a spare behind the seat and can change it out in 10 minutes. Mechanical fuel pump out in the open on the block, not some POS pump inside the gas tank. That's on 292 six in a C10. It gets close to 20 mpg.

I'm happy with 8mpg in my C30. 350, 4 speed. About 7200lbs empty, 16,000lbs loaded.

I think the idea is cool. Fuel injection has done great things for cars and trucks. Do i think it belongs on chainsaws? Idk. It takes the saw to the next level which means not easy for me to fix and modify. Will it last 30 years on the original parts who knows. I won't be buying one anytime soon. As far as I'm concerned a 2 stroke engine is simple and they run real well with a carburetor and when mixing gas and oil for lubrication running a bit rich can't hurt.

Build a light weight fuel injected 4 stroke chain saw and I will consider it.

The lots of money part is where you lose me. I don't need fuel injection and would rather have a 661. I have an 051 though and that's some cool power. I would take a 044 over some fancy thing I can't fix. I don't see the point but in the sales point of view it's a winner. It's like all those people driving around in diesel trucks and they don't own a trailer. They feel cool.

I'm damn curious to see how this evolves over the next 5, 10 years. I just don't see it being that desirable, especially with the market of auto tune saws to begin with. Is there really that much performance to be had, or is this saw's cylinder just on par with what porters are doing? I guess, if you're able to buy a saw that's already at its maximum performance that's obviously a good thing. It's possible that the fuel injection allows that setup, while passing the EPA's BS.

I won't be jumping on them when they first come out, but I think in the long run it's where the market is headed. Hang onto and stockpile carb and m-tronic saws in the coming years if these fuel injected options scare you.

Mtronic won't be supported down the road. Once the chip goes bad in 10 years good luck. Just look at the 056 Mag 11 for an example. Proprietary chips that the aftermarket cannot successfully copy, means continuing new saw sales. Most professionals do not care as much since the saws life expectancy is generally a year or two anyway.

I hope they don't screw this up as they screwed up with the MS462C... it's rumored to go on sale in August/September 2018 in the usual Stihl launch markets (Germany, Switzerland and Austria) but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Wrong sir. It's already been selling there for awhile. It goes on sale in the US in the 4th quarter of 2018. 500i will be here in the 3rd quarter of 2019. Source was Stihl in VA Beach.
