:)

You didn't calmly explain anything. You called me stupid, then in another post you called me a lier. And still in another post you called me a librarian. All are hostile comments over a simple disagreement. I never once disrespected you. I'll except your apology but try to be respectful, I gave you that courtesy. Relax and loosen your man bun, you'll feel better.:)
I do apologise for the name calling but I don't remember calling you a librarian [emoji28].

Without getting mad and name calling now I still do not understand why despite several of us both on this thread and the early one have pointed out that we have hauled 3 face cords on our trucks, that you still insist that it can't be done. I also know that your truck has a small bed making it impractical at best to haul that much, but in a standard fleetside bed of 3/4 ton or more it can and has been done. Please double check my math and show me where I am wrong.

What is a face cord?

Yes please define what you call a face cord.
I call a face cord a stack 16' long by 4' tall by 16/18'' splits.
A true cord is 16'x4'x24'' = 128 cubic feet.
A stack 8 feet by 4 feet by the length of the splits (average being 16'' to 18'') That would be a half face cord.

Let me try to get this thru your thick skull one last time.

The argument was about 3 face cords in a pickup truck bed. The standard accepted definition of a face cord is a 4' x 8' stack of whatever the length of the log is. Another accepted standard is a 16" log length leaving 3 face cords in a cord. If you go to a 24" log (the longest common firewood length) then 2 face cords is a cord and 3 face cords would be a cord and a half.
That would be a half face cord. Not a true face cord.

There seems to be some confusion about what a face cord is. 3 stacks 8'x4'x16'' is a full cord. 128 cubic feet. Your saying a stack 8'x4'x16'' is a face cord, but it's not, it's half a face cord and yes 3 face cords of that size is just a cord 128 cubic feet and could be hauled in a standard long bed with extended sides. If you or anyone else is selling a 8'x4'x16'' stack and calling it a face cord, you are miss informed or your just taking advantage of people that don't know what a face cord is.

Here is an example of what we (I) call a half face cord. The stack is 8'x4'x16/18''
Two of these stacks is what I call a face cord and 3 of these stacks is what I call a full legal cord. 128 cubic feet. If your calling this stack a face cord then no wounder there is confusion.

I think you are off base there. A face cord is 8' long x 4' high x whatever length the splits are. That 'whatever' length is what makes a face cord such a bogus unit of measure - but the 8' x 4' part is part of any face cord 'definition' out there that I have ever seen - your 16' is a new one.

The stack pictured 8'x4'x16'' will fill a standard short bed fleet side level with the top stacked in neatly. Actually it sticks up a little over the bed rail. If there is a tool box involved then it stacks up well over the top rail. And those 1/2 ton truck roll out of here squatting quite a bit.

I understand there is a lot of confusion and maybe the reason is because it's not a legal measurement. The word face in face cord to me defines looking at the face or one side of the stack. The depth or length of the splits can vary from 16 to 24''
When I look at the stack from one side (the face) it is 8'x4' no mater the depth ie. half face cord. So that tells me that stack is a half face cord. Now if the stack is 16'x4' and you look at it from one side (the face) you see what looks like a cord, but if the lengths are not 24'' then it's a face cord and not a true legal cord.
I'd be rich if that stack was a face cord and I could double my money. I sell that 8'x4'x16'' stack (what I call a half face cord) for $165.00

I agree.

I've been buying and selling firewood since 1980.

That would be a half face cord. Not a true face cord.
And there is were you are mistaken.

A cord is a definition that we all agree on. It is a 8 ft long stack of wood 4 ft high and 4 ft deep.
A face cord is just what the name describes, one face of the cord stack. This is what I have always known it to be and is agree to be the definition amongst most of the firewood guys on this site. Even a quick internet search shows this.
Another site that sells racks to hold firewood even has the dimensions. The only thing variable in face cord is log length. For the most common firewood length of 16-18" it takes 3 face cords to make a full cord. If you cut 12" logs it would take 4 face cords to make a cord and the same would hold true for 24" logs as it would only take 2 face cords to make a cord.

LMAO...."Sheldon cords vary in size"...Who would have thunk it? Here's your sign!!!

That guy Sheldon was slick !! Next time someone says they were shorted, I'll say "Do You Even Understand What A Sheldon Cord Is? I thought Not !!...LOL

If they say "Hey That Is More Wood Than I Thought I Was Getting", I'll say "Yup Sheldon Cord Baby" !!! LOL

Does everyone call a stack 8'x4'x16'' a face cord?
I think you are catching on now.

I do apologise again for any name calling I engaged in when I simply could not get you to listen. I apologise to the entire forum as I was over the top obsessed with proving my point and name calling.
Well except for the librarian comment. You really deserved that one!

Libertarian was and still is uncalled for. You need to take that back immediately and go sit in the corner. And it's apologize not apologise.
