I need a new chainsaw for cutting firewood. The old echo 500 VL has died. This will be my only chainsaw for cutting 4-5 cords oak/maple/ black cherry/ash per year and the occasional storm cleanup....
Like to stay under $500.
No Dolmar or Jonsered dealers around me...but lots for Stihl, Husqvarna and Echo.

I’m thinking:
echo cs-590
Husqvarna 545
Husqvarna 450
Echo CS-490

Not opposed to Stihl but they seem more pricey...

Any advice appreciated!

The 590 served me very well for over five years.
No problems at all
Running a 24 occasionally 20 mostly.
Cut tons of hardwood.
The 490 has been a fine saw as well
For smaller jobs just not up to a one saw
Firewood saw for my use.
300.00 each shipped ebay
When i bought mine.

You shopping only at Lowes and Home Depot?
No I have real dealers in my area... I’d rather buy from a real dealer than HD or Lowe’s or online...even though there are some good Cyber Monday deals online right now!
Stihl is having a sale on the MS250 right now for $299 but I think it’s too small for my needs.

I just recently purchased a Stihl MS-241 C-M with a newly acquired BOA credit card. Their deal was if you make a purchase of $500.00 or more within 90 days of receiving your card, you get a $200.00 account credit.

My dealer gave me 10% off MSRP on the saw. Between the $200.00 account credit and the 10% off MSRP, my final price will be about $310.00 or less.

I think the MSRP on the saw was $539.99.

MS250 too small for a firewood saw. I have one, great limbing saw.

MS260 or 261 great saw for firewood
Used MS360/361 be even better, although they are 60cc, maybe more than you want.

Husky makes so many fine 50-60cc saws it's hard to choose. 450 rancher about equivalent to CS590. Ok saws.

I'd probably just buy whatever I found the best deal on.
And that's what I did when I bought both a new 490 and a used Dolmar 421, and sixty dollars worth of parts for the 421, all for under $500.

It took a bit of legwork, and time, and luck.

It's nice having two good saws.
But I still daydream about a new Stihl MS241CM or MS261CM. And sometimes I think if I had it to do over again I'd just drive straight to the Stihl dealer and get one. Really just a luxury item for me now though.

Get what you want. Or get what you need.

Yeah I just got home from two weeks on a tugboat and tomorrow I’m heading out to do some saw shopping...:happybanana:

I’m going to go to a couple different local dealers and see who wants to make a deal.....

Clever!
I’m trying to be practical and not spend a ton of money on a saw I’m not going to use every day.... but all bets are off when I’m at the dealer holding those badass pro saws......
