Does anyone else have trouble with stuff getting past the 500i air filter? Seems every time I change filters mine is an unacceptable level of dirty.

I did some cutting in a burn area bucking trees off trail. The 500i air filter I added a bead of Dow Corning High Vacuum Grease between the filter and case. No black soot made it around that grease seal. The grease did not melt and flow like others will. It was suggested by my dealer.

The stock filter did a good job as I did not see any black soot behind the filter on the white housing.

I've been doing this and have been ok.

You can look at past posting like this one. https://www.arboristsite.com/threads/got-a-500i.356306/#post-7628821

Ive done enough reading on saws in the last few months to learn that most that use the 500i are doing that mod out of the Box before putting it into duty.

The 500i is an interesting saw

For what it's worth 500i is being tested by stihl pretty much pre producting testing by tree Fellers tree companies and cadders.
Only way to test something is send it out into the real World.

Stihl does have the fuel injected concrete saw and there may be fuel injected 462.

Nother year or two and fuel injected saws will be solid.

The Maxflow system Hotsaw101 was showing on youtube looked quite nice to me. I do not own a 500 nor have I run one, so its not first hand info.
That hot saws guy probably had a 100” bar on a 500. Isn’t he the guy with the big fancy bars on little saws?

I don't think a 32" bar on a ported husky 562 is all that unreal, since all he cuts is fir and redwood. Never saw him cut hard maple.

Nope, that's plitz. Hotsaws101 is a feller in California I think who sells stupid expensive port jobs. Like $500-1000.

I took apart husky saws that had dirt all the way to the crankcase not mine but heavy used and never cleaned the filter.

If it’s that bad is there someway to put a woman’s silk stocking over it like a pre filter?

There's a video on YouTube from Cotontop3 with a airfilter mod to stop the fine particles.

Egan Performance Saw's has a foam filter and cage that use stock airfilter cover.
