I must say, this was totally my own idea! I just saw these plates along the RR track and figured it would work upside down on the stove. I did not steal the idea from a cowboy, rodeo rider, or a cranky guy from the midwest! But, it works well.

Does not get hot enough for cooking due to the air gap, but that is why we call it the warming plate. It does not boil away the water in the coffee pot, but keeps it nice and warm till morning, and we put stuff on it that has already been cooked to keep it from getting cold.
Can you cook on the stove itself?

See here's the thing. Shipping is what absolutely kills me here on Kodiak. Not only do items need to be shipped a long distance North. They also have to be shipped via tug and barge or container ship across water to get to Kodiak. Very costly and time consuming! Usually resulting in substantial increases in price for an item that has any kind of weight to it. As far as materials? Being as Kodiak is one of the top three biggest commercial fishing ports in the US. Materials like steel and hydraulic systems and parts are easy to come by. Be them new or used. 👍 I haven't looked deep into commercial splitters yet. However, Eastonmade dosent return many calls or emails!👎 I'll say that much!

Wagner is good quality old school cast! 👍 I have a few Wagner's myself! Griswald is also good, and not too hard to find.

This Gris however, is fairly rare, turn of the century, and nickel coated! 👍 Cast Iron collecting is sort of a hobby of mine. Got a few rare pieces. Few horse shoe trivits too!😉 IMG_20230128_211121262.jpgIMOP, There is no comparing modern stainless or Teflon coated non stick pans to cast for cooking. "If" you know how to cook on cast. Especially if your cast is good quality!👍

If you’re a cast iron guy, you need to hookup with @svk. That guy is the cast iron man

Gris Dutch Ovens are harder to come across than their skillets! I've wanted one for some time! I gotta a couple more modern Lodge made Dutch's. Just not quite as good as the older lighter weight cast. However, Lodge is the only North American cast company STIHL in business!👍
