I'll be the first to admit I'm ignorant when it come to talking about saws. What's the difference between the 394 and the 395? And why did you get rid of the 395?

I agree with Chipper, I don't need a large saw either. But it would be fun to have one to do some milling. Especially at the price you got that saw for.
The 394 is basically a 200 series saw, front tensioner and a 2 port(transfer ports) cylinder; the 395 is the same basic saw with a quad port cylinder but it still has the front tensioner :baba:. I consider the 395 to be a 250 series saw, quad ports like a 300 series saw should have but that dang 200 series tensioner :baba:, have I ever said how much I dislike them lol.

While I have very little run time on a 395, my experience with the 200 series huskys and all 2 port saws, they use more fuel and have a narrower power band. I prefer the 300 series huskys and newer because of these features, same in other brands.
He did get a great price for all that power!

Feeling much better . Off the cough meds and done with antibiotics. Still have to sleep upright but at least I’m sleeping.
Your friend has a nice setup
That's good, sucks being sick.
They've been running for 3 generations, they have a pretty good system for sure. Another friend has a similar setup, he hasn't run it the past couple yrs, but ran it this yr. We've both been busy and I haven't talked to him much this spring to see what he's done. Our other friend collected over 1500 gallons of sap, he had 30 gallons of syrup last time we talked, I'm sure he's finished that by now.
It's in the teens this morning and will be up to 50 this week, it may be the last run or it could have already changed, not sure.

The girl that posted it was being lectured that she should have reported it instead of posting on the internet. She said there was a PG&E truck stopped there with the driver staring at it, why do I need to report it?
That’s so typical now, you post something on the Internet as an FYI to others and get attacked. I posted about a domestic dispute and had multiple people say that I should’ve minded my own business.

I’m like IT HAPPENED IN BROAD DAYLIGHT IN FRONT OF MY OFFICE WINDOW. They were literally throwing punches 10 feet from where I was working. What did you want me to do? Lol

I went out there and yelled at them to stop it immediately and said if you don’t get out of here, I’m calling the cops. The lady was trying to get the guy in the car and the guy was getting smart with me so I called the sheriff on speakerphone, and they heard him threatening me.

He got pulled over a couple minutes later, and got some time in the hoosegow because he had an outstanding warrant. Maybe in retrospect, it wasn’t the best idea to punch out a lady on Main Street in broad daylight, a block and a half from the sheriffs department.

So the nightmare is over. I had looked for a new Chevy or GMC 3500 regular cab WT. One dealer had them but would only sell to commercial:mad:. The Local Chevy truck dealer finally told us that 2023 orders were done and we had to wait for the 2024 orders. They call back and say the manager would not order it because they had a customer waiting over 18 months on an order. The only trucks they had were 1500 crew cabs. Finally a Local GMC dealer emailed and told us we could build a 2024. As we were doing the build we Selected Quick Silver for a color I see a 2500 double cab with the 6.6 gas engine go by the window. The manager came over and asked if we wanted to test drive it. We did and it had lots of options. It had heated seats my wife wanted and the towing that I wanted. We were looking at a 8 to12 month wait on a special order so we bought it. I ordered the back rack so I would not take out the rear window chucking wood in and they gave us the Linex spray in bed Liner. Turns out the truck was a custom order that was not picked up.

You stalker  .
Funny how people put stuff out in the public, then get upset about you reading it or seeing it :buttkick:.
Kinda in the same line is when I ask people how much they paid for their home, then they say private, that's when I look it up on zillow and tell them no it's not:dancing:. What they would be really surprised to know is their loan/lean info isn't either:crazy2:.

sometimes something happens that makes one's life a lot easier!! if not entirely, then perhaps a part of it. That is just what happened to me the other day. i received a gift from a friend. a flashlight. he raved about it, but WTF? a lite is a lite... but no! he said he is never without it in his pocket... i gave it little heed. even when he showed me the USB charging port and said... i will get you one!
🥱
so couple days later he handed me the little flashlight. i thanked him, thinking just one more thing to keep track of....
😏

so i charged it up. nbd. plug n play sort of thing. and as i squinted at the small print... i got more informed. still, i had plenty of flashlights. just something to get chipped in my pocket. then i looked it up online. hmm, my interest increased. as... it would easily clip to the bill of my cap. and it has two illumination intensities. lo/hi! lol..... and then the magic happened!!!!
🤩

i was about to load up and head back to town. i thot... will put the light on my cap... and suddenly, i had 2 free hands. and that changed everything as i also had my own lighting department... and if i went to hi.... i had my own daylight savings time all but like a sunny day! OMG!!!! talk about a treat! then in back of barn working in shop on this or that, put it on cap bill again... and i had a drop light that went everywhere i looked! i was hooked. and loading up has never been easier! and late nite gate ops also, easiest ever! both hands free at the chains n locks!
😋
it was as if everywhere i looked the headlights followed me. should be super on a warm snake safari night, too! when i got back to town, i showed it to the QB. and she liked it so much, we got one for her, too! she
's hers. although she don't wear caps! lol.....

check it out! i can say this... if i lost mine, or it broke... i would immediately order a replacement!!!

Here's one for you, even has those old school crappy stihl handlebar angles 😆. I liked being able to suggest a jred to a stihl guy because many were so accustom to the feel of that 90⁰ handlebar angle.
Rest in peace jred.

Here's what I was cutting with yesterday.
I'm running a jonsered 2260(equivalent to the husky 560 sold in Europe, its like our 562 except with a small bar mount, so its a bit lighter with a bar mounted) with a husqvarna x-cut chain thats about half way worn and has been hand filed, both the rakers and the cutters. Its well tuned to the saw wood species (green, red oak) and my cutting style, I use bore cuts quite a bit.
if I was running it on a stock 372 I'd leave it as is, modded I'd run an 8 pin sprocket so it would still bore cut smoothly, a 394/5, I'd use a 10 pin 🤣.
Notice at 3:50 to 4:05 I made 3 cuts that I progressively added more pressure, if you added another file stroke or two off the rakers for each cut made that's approximately how the saw would buck, although it wouldn't be able to bore cut without kicking back in the cut.

Fast cutting saw. Thanks

The 394xp is the first version of the big saw. The 395xp was the EPA version of that saw. The 395XP is not mine. Although I did use it sparingly to make sure that it can run at all times if needed. I am the Tree Warden in my town. The saw came with the job even though I do not have to cut trees for them. I store the saw so that it doesn't get lost. The Light Dept. and Highway Dept. can use it anytime they need it. In 13 years they have never asked for it. In May I am giving up this job and the saw goes with it. That is why I bought the 394XP.

The 394 has 1/2 hp more than the 395 non EPA .

Rakers usually 25-35 all depends on ur cutting, to aggressive and ur wasting time , unless ur playing around with a big cc saw , but a smooth cutting chain is a fast cutting chain , It all comes down to the filing and or grinding, knowing what ur doing and why ur doing it for , but it’s fun to run low rakers on a big ported saw , and chew some wood 👍
A good friend of mine said to drop them 1/8" and let it rip. Maybe if all I was cutting was Pine trees.

Fast cutting saw. Thanks
Thanks.
It's just a muffler modded 2260 with the decomp plugged, no other mods.
a properly tuned chain makes a lot of difference.

I had meant to ask why you were getting rid of it, maybe they will tell you to just keep it :).
What are your plans moving forward?

I've got 2 of those saws, but both of mine are ported...makes a bit of difference. On my 550, I run .025"...it's running a 20" bar of full comp 3/8, so I don't want to go too agro. On my 372, depending on the chain....025-.030". The closest saw I have to a 395 is my 066...I'm running .030 on my 114dl chain and that's with an 8 pin sprocket too. It's got plenty of power for that, but with the 36" bar, chip clearance becomes an issue.
Thank you. That is what I wanted to know. That is pretty much what i run them at. When i measured .075 on the 394xp I was shocked.

I retired 15 months ago. I'm trying to clean up our woodlot that keeps getting hammered by ice storms and this last one with 27" of heavy wet snow. It keeps me pretty busy.
