People don't yet take battery operated chainsaws seriously.

I have concerns about the grid as well, and we had a six day outage a couple years ago. Caused me to increase my gasoline storage by quite a bit, and also build an off grid solar power system. Not enough to run the whole house, but it'll keep the essentials going, for a long time. A hell of a lot longer than I could store fuel for.

Sun falls from the sky, gasoline and diesel don't.

Maybe so. But I can buy a lot of diesel for what you've got in a solar system of any merit.

I Just ran my 30hp Kubota for 3.5 days straight for less than $70.

Edit: normally I wouldn't even do that but we happened to have company in town. Normally I will just run my welder for our personal needs and it will handle everything we need, selectively and conservatively of course. Caution must be used.

As to what that $70 got me. 9 people in a house round the clock. Weather was cold so heat was involved, granted it was my outdoor wood stove which requires little electricity.
The whole house is electric. Stove, dryer, hot water heater.
My wife works for UH from home and worked each day. Powering 3 monitors, copy machine, Fax machine. Multiple tv's on at any time.2 fridges 2 upright freezers. 220v well pump. Meals cooked morning noon and night. Microwave ran whenever. Clothes were washed and dried. Certain appliances were not run concurrently but for the most part we lived like kings and more importantly enjoyed ourselves despite being cut from "the grid."

Mine are a bit bigger than 30 horsepower, try 90 pto. My diesel standby genset has a turbo charged John Deere engine in it. I don't track fuel usage, never have.

Only solar I own is the panels on the RV and that is enough for me.

Definitely. Could have bought a new Kubota LowBoy for less than what I spent.

I'd have to check my spreadsheet, but I'm ~$7k into the solar power system so far, which would get you about a year of fuel at that consumption rate, and ignoring your cost to buy the generator. My system will be running for a lot longer than that.

Glad we both have the option to go the direction we want for power, and I hope we're never in a position where I can say "I told you so."

I got two natural gas champion generators that pretty much run everything i need to run and i have a endless source is gas from the well ( FREE! ). I got solar panels on my little shed that charges a pair of marine batteries to run a few led lights at night.
I keep plenty of fuel on hand for my gasoline and kerosene lanterns including stoves.

I had to laugh when I read this... Sure, cheap tools with tiny batteries suck, and battery recycling is questionable at this point... But anyone who dishes tesla on performance should try beating one with their stock v8 on some real roads. My friends dual motor makes his mustang cry.
To re-cap, cordless tool batteries are a waste hazard, as you agreed....and tesla are girls cars, regardless of the performance....If your Grandpas, or Dad, didn't teach you how to use hand tools, if you don't have an ounce of wrench in you, go buy a Tesla.

Then start comparing apples to apples. How much hp and torque does Tesla claim? Give the same to a gas or diesel then compare them. Till then it's moot.
I seen a video out that had compared the high end Lucid and Tesla against multimillion dollar supercars and even a superbike and the Lucid beat all of them in a drag race. The instant torque and HP of a electric car is had to beat.

Well someone should’ve put a guard railed around this subject because it is skidding way off the path! Now we‘re talking tractors, generators, refrigerators and cold weather?

Just got my new msa300 Love it what a little beast not very quiet though, I have had the Al 500 battery on for two weeks now and only swapped two times, it rips on ashen and oak like nothing. I’ve got a pro chain on it not that stupid green chain and it works real well not quite the same feel as 261it’s more torque in some places and the 261 still sounds better. still a beast, image.jpg works wonderful I’m not sure my clear feelings on the Msa 220t I sure my weekend crowd well appreciate my purchases.

I like having a variety of fuel options for saws, homes, etc. Wood heat is one of those!

I have battery, corded electric, 2-stroke, and manual saws (although, those old crosscut saws need a bit of attention!).

Hard to imagine when petrol fuels first became available, and people scoffed about driving automobiles long distances, because a network of filling stations did not exist, let alone every few miles across the country!

I have an attorney friend who has a pretty new Tesla sport model which is supposed to turn incredible thousand foot times but it still does not compare to my son's gasser that lifts one of it's front wheel off the line. I have been building high performance street cars for sixty years and enjoy the process. We very much enjoy getting up Saturday morning and driving a few miles to our Coffee and Cars show in La Quinta CA. No sign of any Teslas there. Thanks
There are already guys out there, doing exactly what you are doing, but with EV’s.

Eh. I've always viewed standby's as wasteful, esp on a farm with so many tractors sitting around. Just another thing to maintain and try to keep good fuel in. PTO gennys require very little maintenance. Back em in the corner and forget about em til theyre needed again. We run the farm genny off a 5088, about 150 hp with the injection pump turned up.
But that's an old tired tractor that was pulling field duty when I was in diapers. It pretty much hangs out in the yard these days either runnning the manure pump out of the pond or the genny or dragging an occasional wagon.

Because I farm, I keep around 400 gallons of ORD on hand all the time in a 500 gallon bulk tank.

You fill your tank when it drops down to 400 gallons? Co Ops around here won't even bother with you unless you've got a 150 gallon minimum order, and that's a bare minimum. You must be paying for delivery fees or going and buying the fuel yourself.

That equipment looks too clean to have been used much, if ever.
Shore' looks Purdy tho.

Took a 1400hp purpose built gasser race car to keep up with a bone stock 1020hp Tesla.

Yep. But in a cross country race, an economy car would beat the Tesla, because of the time saved refueling vs recharging.
