I picked up a jug n piston kit just to have one on hand,, haven't actually needed it yet..
I just got one of those top covers in a pile of parts I picked up today. one box of misc 61 parts including a case.I did just put a brand spankin new bar on her in this picture lol, and to be honest it wasn’t that dirty when I got it so I never really touched anything much cleaning wise but the top cover! Haven’t gotten a good chance to run my new bar yet, but have some stuff to chop up soon so I’ll probably test her out then.
Then next up on the bench is my 266xp project soon as I receives some parts

Mine actually has one crack and I’ve been looking for one to replace it!

Oops...different saw. Just looked more closely. That one is for a 44/40, not a 61 like the cover on the left

I haven’t seen one like you speak of I don’t think, but my white top Will actually fit a 272 cylinder underneath it tho unlike some earlier ones, I do know that 
Gotcha! But Yep that one on the left is for an older 61 maybe 82-83 iirc,
will not fit a 272 cylinder under that one, shaped a bit differently than mine! In the air filter area and spark plug area

you’re slits over the muffler are in quite good shape for her age!

It has morfed quite a bit since original concept
8 on the rack, 4 on shelf above. More scattered in the shop
I spent a bit of time inspecting that piston. Cleaned it in my ultrasonic cleaner and looked at it closely with a 10X magnifying glass. From what I can tell there was a flaw in the casting that ultimately caused it’s demise. Not a scratch on the cylinder thankfully. I had a nice used single ring 630 piston on hand so that’s what’s in it now. With a new ring of course.
I’ve got a NOS 630 top end on hand as well. Found the jug locally piston came from France.

I can't speak for other saws since I only have one in that class, but my 038 has serviced me well for firewood scrounging.
48 years of cutting wood, all I have ever owned were 2 360 Homelites and 2 036 Pro's. I've cut a lot wood with 60 cc saws.
