Ran my CS510 against my brothers 026, my 510 cut a little faster but nothing to write home about. You'ld like the torque the 510 has. Steve

Anyone taking issue over a second in the cut between two saws is merely doing so out of brand loyalty and nothing more. If it means that much to justify the saw of your chosing I suggest a axe and then come back and try again with the saws, that second won't matter much then. I use the old slower 026 and I got the two screamers in question and I'll continue to use it for years to come. The screamers are faster but are they better just because of that, not in this cats book. If its all about high speed cookie cutting as the prime indicator of performance, where longivity and reliablity doesn't matter, the woods sure have nothing to fear out of those that worry about that second in the cut,LOL

Hehehehehe
Guess this applys here to thall ;)
except the ms260 is the faster saw about 250 rpms. Brahhahahaha

So how does the CS-520 stack up to the MS260.

Sure?:monkey:

I have no idea!

I know a couple of guys that run the top handles and seem to think they are alright for what they are, read half the price of a 200t.

I looked at the new top handles and played with them. I honesly thought I was going to break the break lever trying to get it to relaease! It didn't impress me a whole lot, BUT I never ran it!!!
None of my dealers around here carry the larger saws, they say people that have run them have been less than impressed and they are hard to move. So I have not even handled one, I can't find one, I am just as curious as you, I like the way the big one looks on paper. But without even hanling one, unless it's a heck of a buy, I don't think I will do it.
The warranty sounds great, but I have yet to read the fine print, and there is always fine print!!!

Honest enough?

I've noticed....

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I have noticed that whenever Echo saws are mentioned in a thread, they draw an inordinate amount of attention. There must be a lot of interest in Echo.

The warranty is almost unbelievable and they are really priced very reasonably.
Like I said, the only thing I know about are the top handles, they are about the same price as my 192t, and will cut circles around it.
The problems:
I think they feel toyish, lots of plastic as I stated, and as Troll stated, they are a bit over ratted powerwise, so the power to weight isn't as good as the catalog makes them look.

BUT, very few people with experiance step up to say either way, so it's all speculation up to now!!!
Good and confused?

asking for trouble

as i have observed on AS:
no pros use echo.
echo is not a pro saw.
echos are heavy.
echos are all underpowered.
warranty is no good because of fine print.

my own observations:
i am not a pro and i don't have much experience with cutting. but i do know that in the proper application any saw can shine. granted that application may be one time use (new poulan) or far more often (say, homeowner husky). echo is a good homeowner/firewood saw.
of all the non pro brands out there and all the junk to choose from... echo 'junk' is probably the safest bet.
great bang for buck and reliable.:)

I'm not calling it junk, not even trying to imply it's junk!!
As I stated, all I have dealt with where top handles, and these were used by tree services!!!
Keep in mind I am the first person to push a Husky 350 (non-pro saw) to 90% of the people that ask about one saw!

For the money, I don't think I would be afraid to try one, but I would like to at least handle one first!!

no hostility toward you sawin:) .
i have read a lot of posts on AS and apparently echo sucks! i just didn't know it!:)
i realised this around the time i noticed that if you move your mouse pointer over someones rep if they have a lot it says that '-insert name here- must own a stihl'.:dizzy:

OK I'm back,
had to deliver some wood.

Yes I have the top handle Echo CS-340.
The break works fine. Maybe the one you tried was too new and needed worked.

I do have an intrest in these saws. The one I have starts up great the only problem I have had was the muffler gaurd broke. That was my fault.
Yes it seems to be under powered I even did a muffler mod.
Thats OK with me. I cut two loads of slab wood this winter and now the saw is picking up on some power. (not much) for the money I would say it is a fine saw.

Now echo has come out with newer styles and I would like to know how the are fairing.

I would for sure buy one over a polan, mostly because of dealer support.

The CS-520 has me wondering.

Why not cs520 v ms260 v 346xp v 5100 ???

My experience with Echos has been positive with their smaller saws, particularly with the top handles. The few middie and mid-large I've used have been OK, but sure haven't blown my hair back. I think they are certainly good saws and worth their price point, but Stihl, Husky/Jred and Dolmar have nothing fear though.........................

I have had a cs670. I really liked this saw. I put it to a lot of use. I never had a problem with it. I really like the simple set up of the saw. Toggle on/off pull choke. Easy air filter to bang out. I put 3 gallons of fuel through it the first day I had it. I really liked the saw a lot. I screwed it up because I can't tune a carb. I didn't like the small dawgs. The exit hole for chips needs to be a little bigger. I have a cs520 now also. This saw always starts and runs. Same simple setup. It cuts slow but that is because it's out of tune. I use for the junk saw. It rides in the open truck bed 24/7 snow rain whatever it's exposed to it. It's a back up saw. But it always starts and runs. I also have 2 top handle climbing saws. They never ask for a thing. I don't use them much anymore because I bought a 020T. The don;t compare to the 020T. But I got them new off e-bay for $120 a piece. They are slow but always start and run. If you want an Echo watch e-bay you can save a ton of money on them there. I have had 4 echos and liked them all. They aren't Stihl and Huskys but they are realitively close. I would and will buy another one. You can't beat the price. The last 5 saws I have bought have been Stihls and Huskys because of the price I have gotten them for. But now since they don't have on line ordering for Husky I don't know how many more I will buy because of the price. The Stihls I have bought have been very good deals used from friends. Like I said watch e-bay.

No I have not bought the Echo
Just asking questions about it.

I'm saving up for the Jonsered 2153 as of now.

I would like to know how the echo stacks up to the Stihl Ms260
seems they would cut side by side.
For the money seems the echo would be the one to buy.

I am going to take a look at it.
My Jonsered dealer sells Echo too. so Parts should not be any problem.

Looking at the specs would justify the lesser dollar saw...I like my 026 (rattlebox), but have never ran that echo side by side with it. I have no need to do it.

The 026 needs a 5 year warrenty? The track record should speak for itself, but a lot of people don't see it that way. on the other hand, not many pros run the echo, so maybe the longer warrenty is an incentive for them to try it. Are the echos going to have parts available 5-10 years down the road? I know the rattlebox brand will. I guess that leaves it up to the dealer, but if you are buying it from bailey's you aren't worried about supporting your local dealer, or the local dealer supporting you and the saw.

Kinda like the 5100 and 2153....5100 is a bargain...so why are you getting a Jred again?
