Now Lake this kinda concerned me. I don't know nor understand that much varnish after 12 tanks. Whats your take on that?

good call about the loose bolts.

be it the bolts or imperfection in the bore, ect it caused the rocking and all the damage/blow-by you see pictured.

nice of you to hook the man up THALL!

Whatcha think Lake? If that was a old saw with alot of hours on it I would say some dirt injestion. However its only had about a 12 tanks through it so I have no clue what caused that scuffing on the piston other than the imperfection on the cylinder wall itself. Whats your take on it??

so i guess the smooth looking verticle mark on the piston is damage?
also, the piston damage lined up with the pit on the cyl?
what's the story behind the scratching? was there any more scratching on the cyl or piston that did not show through the exhaust port?

i hunger for info. i hope that piston and cylinder are laying around when i get down there. gotta have a look-see!

LOL,,,, I thought you was about a half a bubble off!!!!!!! LOL!!!!

Hahaha, it was a long day for sure. Everyone is bringing in weed wackers now, carbs clogged from old gas. Had a 025 that blew a oil tank vent, talk about one oily mess. Had another 025 that was 7 years old, old gas, clogged carb, busted fuel line, mess. Two trimmers , two hedge trimmers and Volks saw. By 5pm all was done and that doesn't count the ordering, the selling and unloading a boat load of new Stihl off UPS and putitng it all away and doing the paperwork. You need to come give me a hand River, damn were starting to rock and roll, you'd love it up there now, not a dull moment...

I'll save them for ya. I have no clue what caused that scuffing. Its not nearly as bad as it looks. Its more of a blemish than scuffing. I'm hoping Stihl will let me keep your jug and piston. I will gut that baby and toss it on my 361 for fun.

they have 90 days to ask for it.. but... if Eddy's reading this thread, he'll want it...:greenchainsaw:

heck, I might just make the call and get it sent to me ;

Does the long narrow scuff line up with the pit on the cylinder?
The piston gets a lot of side load on the intake side.

Tom ya done good for once.....

Elvis would be proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well to be totally honest me and the guys down at Mid-Atlantic have a great working relationship. I have never tried to cheat them on anything and I never ask them to bend unless I feel the customer has a legit concern. They have always stood behind me 100%. Hell I've done warranty work on things as old a 8 years. I recently had a few blowers that were way out of warranty that didn't hold up as well as I thought they should have. I called and explained why and they agreed and said givem new blowers and send us the bill. They've always been more than fair with me and have gone the extra mile to keep them users happy.

I think the biggest problem with these dealer horror stories people hear is the dealer not willing to go to bat for his customers. Stihl has no problem taking care of issues but they can't if the dealer won't pick up the phone for his customers..

Hey got a better eye deer. If they give it to me I'll send it to ya to mod for me. You will send it back won't ya, huh, whats that ya say, huh, oh, well in that case where is my LOCK BOX,LOLOLOLOLOLOL

forgot to mention.
why does the bright mark on the piston line up with the pin that locates the ring?

Got no idea. I checked that ring pin close and its tight as can be so it wasn't a pin. If it were a loose pin you would see some real damage. I will have it looked at if you like. As for me I think cutting that piston off about 1mm on the intake side would be fine for what I got in mind..

I'd venture to say that some assembly tech in Virginia Beach dropped a peanut butter and banana sandwich in the jug during assembly.

Tommie, what date was your last visit to the plant? What's the manufacture date on that saw?

:monkey:

no need to have it looked at.
who they gonna get that knows more than you?!?
forgive me, this is the way i learn. i ask a thousand stupid questions untill i eliminate every possibility, then whatever i have left is the answer.
it's a good system but it tends to aggravate people who really do know what they are doing.:greenchainsaw:
i am satisfied knowing that the saw is fixed. :) who could ask for more?
