Hi all, I have an 066 with the dual port muffler. A friend of mine has a big Red oak that is at least 32 " or more diameter on the stump. I am now running a .404 25" bar with full comp semi chisel. What in your opinion is the biggest bar I could handle with this stihl 066? IT handles the 25" easily!

I run a 42" bar with .404 chain with no problems. It is ported and polished with a dual ported muffler, but a stock saw should pull as well. :) Dan

There's another thread on here about max bars for the 066. Quite a bit of discussion on there. Do a search, and enjoy that thread. But just off the cuff, that saw will easily handle a 32" or 36" bar in the wood you describe if the saw is healthy and of course running right.

And also, did you mean to post this in the used equip forum? It'll probably get moved to the chainsaw forum, and that's the forum you should do the search for the 066 bar length thead in.

Jeff

With 7HP, it'll pull the 42" bar without much trouble, if ported, it'll pull longer bars. with a 16" bar, that saw will become a lightsabre.

42" is the biggest common size I know of that comes for that mount, I am not a chainsaw buff, there is probably longer lengths available.

If your not doing production work it will pull a 42" for a tree here and there. I have ran a 36" on an 044 without any problems before I got my 088.

If you have a sharp chain and a good bar, you can easily cut that stump with a 24" bar. Of course, if you're just looking for an excuse to get a big bar, who am I to stop you?

I run a 660 mag with a dual port muffler and a 36in bar. personally i run 3/8 full skip oregon chain and it cuts smoothly through most of it. I cut a lot of fir, cottonwood, hemlock, etc up here in the pacific northwest and it slices right through it...just run good gas and keep it sharp

The most I have run on my 066 mag is a 36 inch bar alot of people tell me that you can run a 42 in bar I have never had one lieing around so I don't know. I would say a 36 will probably cut everything you need. Not that much huge stuff left now a days.
