Picked up a locked up $20 272xp this morning. Free’d the rings, swapped the coil and now I have a nice running 272. First 272 I’ve had. Should be a nice match for the ol 440. They are very comparable but seems the 272 is a top end screamer and the 440 has the grunt. Super stoked about this deal.

didn’t even have to clean the ol tillotson.

I’ve had 2 “locked” saws that had loose fasteners jammed between the flywheel and coil. Also had a couple with rusted clutches. Unless you already know of course. Great find either way

Yes I’ve came across that also, but this one has the rings frozen. Poured atf down plug hole and let it sit for a little. Slowly turned clutch back and forth to break loose. Compression is good.

Sounds fantastic mate, good score!

Does the piston look OK?
I'm just wondering what "locked up" was. Locked from just sitting?
I’m guessing just seized from sitting, unstuck it, put my thumb over hole to see if she was blowing and it felt healthy swapped coil and put it back together didn’t even clean the carb and fired right up. I’m guessing it was sitting due to bad coil. It looked rough when I picked it up thought it was going to be a more involved build. Will get compression # tmw. Haven’t pulled muff to check condition of p&c.

Nice to see all the og’s still around here.

I second the motion!

Try to get that carbon out of the ex port before it flakes off and scores the piston

probably going to do a base delete and raise exhaust and intake back to factory specs. Maybe a couple degrees of timing. Might do velocity stack and cone filter thru the top cover.
